Reading a comment by Phil that the team stayed overnight before yesterday’s game, I want to ask a related general question. I’ve wondered before what players do all day if they travel to an evening away game a day early. Do they ‘ train’ somewhere in the morning. If so, where? I remember in the Premier League days away teams used to stay at Stoke by Nayland and use the school playing field to ‘stretch their legs’. Is that how it works in general ? Or do they borrow or rent training facilities from other clubs ( maybe smaller non-league clubs)? Are the arrangements well-established, repeating from season to season? |  | | |  |

We trained at the old Man Utd training ground, The Cliff, earlier in the season when we stayed over from the Thursday and also at St George’s Park. |  |

My lad was at a L1 club for a bit. They used to stop off at a hotel to eat the usual pasta/chicken /veg have a bit of a kip and generally try and sort out any niggles. Unless it was at the other end of the country they didn't stay overnight. |  | | |

Several years ago Sheffield United and Preston both stayed at Ufford Park Hotel and used Woodbridge Town on the Friday afternoon for a light training session, mainly practising set pieces.
Both clubs were very friendly and gave the club signed shirts which I seem to recall we used as raffle prizes. |  | | |

I have often wondered the same.
I also wonder the threshold for an overnight stay. For Ipswich I imagine it's most away games for routine etc but if you're a London team heading to another London team do you bother? Or do you still do it for 'routine'? |  | | |

Having watched a lot of Ben Fosters youtube channel, Watford certainly do it for all games (including some home games IIRC from his videos - if its an evening or early kick off). |  |
