Energy and Gas suppliers.... 20:41 - Feb 23 with 3219 viewsitfcjoe

....anyone had any luck with switches etc.

I was mid switch between Green (now Shell) and Avro (now Octopus), I still can't get hold of anyone - Green took 3 DDs they shouldn't have done, Octpus have now stopped taking DDs.

The estimated increase has gone up £2.5k this year, with the monthly payment more than doubling and is now nearly at £400 a month

If anyone else on this thread has had a PM from a Broom99 offering to get them a cheaper than standard fixed tariff - I'd be very suspicious.

No posting history to think of (1 post) and he is offering to get you a cheaper deal (that simply is not available) - no doubt at some point you set up a dd and/or hand over bank details.

Will abuse my own post so Phil/Gav can check the poster to see if they are as dodgy as they appear.

Yep.

There’s nothing that says you can’t switch, you can do so at any time. Comparison sites have just stopped running switching quotes as new fixed tariffs are way more expensive than staying with existing suppliers, even when being moved onto their variable rate

As mentioned above EonNext now have fixed deals the same price as the new cap that comes in on April 1st

Which means you are protected against the next cap rise in October which even before Ukraine going to pot was going to be 30% higher again

I warned him about doing the same on the forum a few weeks ago so have banned him.

Yeah I had a message from them but just deleted it immediately. Assumed it was a bot or such like.

Wholesale power has gone up ~5p/kWh overnight with the news of war in Ukraine, so I don't think it's going to get any better soon.

That does sound like a lot. Mine is now £250 combined for Gas & Electric per month. I'm on a variable deal as the fixed ones wanted me locked in for 2 years and were quite a way more expensive than what I'm paying now, so I'll take my chances I think, especially as we head into warmer months.

As both gas & electric are with the same supplier (EDF) I've never really looked at the breakdown before, but I checked this morning. Last month it was about £70 electric and £180 gas. 4p per kwh I'm paying on Gas, not sure if I'm being stung or not.

That fills me with dread as fear I’m going to be similar - had lots of issues with energy over years as at one point ran £800 debit even though submitting meter readings regularly as our house is a very energy hungry house

I might be able to help there, Joe.

Just had a look and Eon Next is 20% more expensive p/kWh of electric and 32% more expensive p/kWh of gas than I am paying on the variable tariff…

EDIT: and only fixed for 1 year

He just works for Utility Warehouse that's all.

One of their 'distributors' so will be on commission for each new punter he collects.

They can be reasonable if you take all the services they offer but their training does brainwash them somewhat. I had to listen to my sister and brother-in-law for years banging on about how they were the cheapest but in truth it always turned out wherever I happened to be living at the time they couldn't compete.

Where there are too few chimney pots naturally most firms outside of the BT influence can't compete on landline/broadband anyway so that's not a fault, it applies to most firms as BT control the local boxes and there's a premium to be paid, yet they would still be the first to claim they could better the deal even when they couldn't.

Broomy was touting for business, but it could get irritating. I've had PMs from him several times whenever I've commented on utility prices despite politely turning him down each time.

But no, he wasn't a bot or anything sinister to my knowledge.

Just signed up for 12mths with octopus at £276!
Was with avro £103

Octopus was taking £132 not in contract- but due to winter months under paying £95 per month usually balances out in contract with BBC summer months!

As stated above - wholesale market went batsh1t crazy overnight due to Ukriane.

[Redacted] that I am a costing analyst for, have actually stopped pricing today as the market is just not going to stabilise

on a side note, I'd like to think the Suadi's will come along with oil/LNG at a middle finger to Putin price very soon

or at least that's what I'd do...

Energy Cap means anyone not on a fixed term, will see their unit rates go up in April - but 99.999% of this is due to wholesale market, not the brokers/big 6 whatever you want to call em

The missus works in the energy industry and that’s the one bill that I don’t take care of. All I know of that our renewal is up today (I think). We were paying £57 a month, so god knows what that’ll go up too … she’s not given me that news yet!
[Post edited 23 Feb 2022 21:03]

Further to this, and don't ask me how (the missus has tried to explain but it doesn't really make sense to me), but we were quoted a renewal cost of £200 a month from British Gas (we currently have a debt of around £127). However, as my missus has decided to up our monthly payments (off our own backs) to £100 a month, as the weather gets warmer and the heating goes off, our debt will start to decrease and BG will not need to up our price beyond that £100 a month.

Obviously if the debt gets bigger or barely reduces, BG are within their rights apparently to up our direct debit.

I believe this is on the variable rate.
