Which bit do you disagree with Captain Sensible?

I agree with exactly what Mullet has posted. It seems if they were your kids you wouldn't have an issue with it based on what you posted?

An uplifting morning read.... by BanksterDebtSlave 16 Apr 2022 8:03
https://www.theguardian.com/education/2022/apr/16/leeds-pimary-school-parklands-chris-dyson-interview

Even if you can threaten children into behaving in the short term, the change won’t last once they are outside the gate, he says. “When the children leave here I want them to have inner discipline and know the importance of politeness and good manners.”

Born in Intake, Sheffield, Dyson says although money was short he had a happy childhood. “My mum, my grandpa, my nan and my brother and sister were a close unit because I didn’t see my dad from when I was about six, and I never saw my other grandparents from round about being seven, so it was always just us. What we lacked in presents we got in love,” he says.

Society today is so loving and respectful.

People may think that I'm just doing that edgy thing but to be honest I think it's kind'a ok to see statues and such becoming part of the living fabric of a town. Shame about the chipping but it isn't a public hanging and flogging thing imho.

"Div" seems a strong response to a post you can't disect and find you point of objection to.
I would be pleased that they had been out on a sunny day engaged in physical activity rather than anti social behaviour or locked in a bedroom playing on a screen. I would hazard a guess that there was no malicious intent behind these kids actions. As stated before it's a shame about the chips (so maybe a quick course in plastering a good edge) for whoever did it...the tyre marks though don't personally bother me.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Town fans raised £100k for that statue in tribute to a club legend. Tyre marks might not bother you but it looks horrible and is disrespectful. Not suggesting they deserve hanging but their behaviour should definitely be challenged.

To a certain extent I do agree with you. Some of the comments on here about the skaters seem to be straight out of the news comments section - thought that the forum was meant to be more considered.

Some statues are more equal than others - if the Giles statue in the town centre was used as a ramp (or whatever skaters do) then very few people would care. But as it’s a statue of Kevin Beattie then it’s more revered by more people.

I would genuinely be annoyed with most statues being marked like that. Obviously there are some exceptions such as the slave trader one recently thrown in a river.

That would be malicious intent but as it happens my van is regularly scraped by a hedge where I have to park so it probably wouldn't show !

Not if they were just playing with keys. Just kids having fun.

They know the effects of what they are doing, it's clear to see and I don't remember being told its OK to damage someone else's property as long I was just playing.

Why would you think that was OK?

Not only is it disrespectful to Kevin Beattie, its disappointing for those who put the effort in to make it happen especially the sculptor.......and it's criminal damage!

Agree, it's not just the statue which is bad enough, but what it represents.

And it's only bloody well been there 5 minutes!

This is a nice enough bank, there isnt much else like this and its definitely accessible.

Its harmless fun, concrete can repaired.

Incredibly silly move (especially seeing as Ipswich has two great skate parks and Bury/Stowmarket both down the road are great too) but it’s been done in the name of a hobby at least, the reaction of many on here you’d think it was intentional damage in the name of disrespect and mindless vandalism.

Lots of big brave men talking about how they’d beat up children is probably the funniest part. I’m with Banks, calm down.

That would be intentional mindless vandalism to personal property. A court would argue they are very different things. You should remember that.

I broke and chipped many things skateboarding as a teen. Granted I had enough of a brain to realise doing it on statues or memorials is a silly idea, but kids gonna kid.

If they had took a can of spray paint and a hammer to it, or nicked shirts left in memorial off it (as happened with SBR statue after his death), I’d get the outrage. I imagine it was something they saw and thought it looked like a good bit of architecture to wall ride, and the context of the statue was an oversight.

This debate has long raged around skateboarding and architecture, I expect Beattie’s ego wouldn’t be so out of whack to not admire the skill and creative use of the urban environment. Read: https://www.archi-ninja.com/skateboarding-and-architecture/
