Baked Beans 10:20 - May 5 with 2527 views | Churchman | As an aside for the thread about that berk Eustace’s idiotic comments, I’ve been thinking about baked beans. I believe them to be one of the gods of food. Flexible, nourishing, tasty, conveniently packaged, satisfaction guaranteed in every glorious, perfectly formed tin. So, the big questions of the day are: 1. Do you like baked beans 2. What is your favourite brand For me, the king of the B Bean is Branstons. 4 for £2 (Asda), these gems are less sugary than Heinz, less watery than own brands, good bean count and work better with other things. For me, a good use is in chilli instead of kidney beans. I’m ok with the k bean if I eat chilli out, but if we are making a chilli the baked boys go better. Oddest eating was in Malaysia where I had them several times for breakfast with curry. Curiously the combo worked, mainly because breakfast curries there were quite mild. Add in a bit of bacon and toast and it was brekkie fit for a king. The misses was unimpressed, mind….

Baked Beans on 13:14 - May 5 with 728 views | BlueBoots | Yep Tesco Reduced Sugar and Salt (find most sauces too sweet) If I'm in the mood for beans, more likely to make a sort of cassoulet using leftover roast pork / ham, chorizo and mixed beans (few diced veggies, stock and tinned tomatoes for the sauce)

We'll see about that! | |

Another vote for Branstons from me. I think this thread has really sorted out the wheat from the chaff.

I was assuming Dan meant he prepares them from scratch. Not opens a tin and heats some up!

What about Lidl own brand beans, where does that put me in the pecking order?

That's a fair question. Someone else mentioned those elsewhere too. I haven't yet tried them so that decision needs to be put on hold. I'll get back to you in due course.

I’ve not tried them either tbh. I’ll have to hunt a tin down.
Baked Beans on 15:14 - May 5 with 616 views | Lakenheath_Blue | Has to be Heinz. My partner eats baked beans with ever meal as he's not a fan of vegetables (specifically green veg like peas, sprouts, cabbage etc). Often eating out, he is substituting veg for baked beans.
| My computer could be more encouraging. You know, instead of "invalid password", why not something like, "Ooooh, you're so close!"? - Lisa Porter |

I was a staunch Branston guy, but Aldi's own brand beans have taken over Branston by a country mile.

That's fine, as long as he's not putting baked beans on his roast...

I'm all for them. Cheese on toast topped with Lidl's finest, a liberal sprinkling of Hendersons and a few dots of HP sauce.

I’m currently a Heinz man but will happily give Branstons a go. Has to be mixed in with some brown sauce ( stokes is my current choice ) nice bakers bread, we’ll buttered and some cheese on top.

Baked Beans on 11:24 - May 5 by Churchman | That’s a great combo. Mixing with a tin of tomatoes, chilli flakes, a tiny amount of cumin, black pepper, Lea & Perrins, a little chopped onion, even a bit of celery, a burp of ketchup reduce down and jobs a good un. |
Beans, chilli flakes, cumin and possibly smoked paprika. Toast with melted cheese and this on top is a thing of culinary beauty. Done.
Baked Beans on 07:49 - May 6 with 445 views | Churchman | Well, forget the local elections. The important vote is in. Branstons won by a health majority Heinz formed the main party of opposition, but fell well short Minor parties include Lidl, Aldi, Asda own brand There were a few spoiled papers by the bean atheists, but the duly elected baked beans member for TWTD is Branstons. Hurrah! [Post edited 6 May 2022 7:50]
