Sounds like pretty good advice, & is what previous generations had to do in recessions, etc. A lot of us sat at home doing nothing & got paid recently, now it's time to get the head down & actually work hard. See nothing wrong with this whatsoever.

No matter what you actually believe in I’d say it’s probably beneficial for you to take a look around you’ll see lots and lots of people who give everything and receive little in return or complain who invariably always fall through the cracks. Don’t be too hasty to judge others who’s situation you know nothing of.

Yep, you are the target demographic that the minister was addressing.

Where to start with this?

It’s not about people not working hard (plenty of people struggling work very hard already)
It’s not about furlough (those worst off we’re more likely to have not been furloughed, and were in work throughout and exposed more to Covid)

How easy is it to just get a better paid job? (As if people haven’t already thought of that ):
- No promotion opportunities in current role
- At top of scale
- No higher paid jobs for skills/experience
- Missing experience/ skills for a better paid job
- Already working more than 1 job
- Zero hours contracts….etc

Obviously people want to get on and are always looking for a promotion or better opportunities. That’s a given. It’s a bit embarrassing as a government position.

The sadly frustrating thing is that there are far too many simple sponges, like this particular specimen, that are only too willing to bathe & luxuriate in this rancid tory pis*water.

This is why I feel especially sorry for young people - they have been utterly screwed over by previous generations and for added insult they are labelled as snowflakes by much older people.

I don’t blame them if they simply abandoned ship and emigrated.

Recession from 90-93 was the worst by far. No government bailouts back then. Mortgage rates were in excess of 15%, so many people lost their houses & businesses, it was really difficult.I had four separate jobs at one point & having just met my future wife, we had two mortgages to pay. Don't know how we got through that period, but it certainly taught us a lesson about bloody hard work. Comparable times really, then as now there was a weak conservative government with an inept opposition.

Being vegan? Actively avoiding businesses that are exploiting the earth? No longer owning a car?

You really can change a lot with your wallet but people are too lazy.

I have no control over what happens out there, but I can control what I do and my impact.

I meant for the national strike.

I'm about 95% plant based (at least. I no longer own a car either.
