My dad's a nutter 14:26 - Aug 8 with 2116 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

He had a mini stroke on Tuesday... but the walked to the doctor's (45 mins) then later in the week used a hedge trimmer and RAN to Tescos. He's 86 next month.

Had to go into hospital Saturday night (when I got the call - while me and Lady Dollers were in Soho Theatre watching a play about parenthood!) They confirmed it was a mini stoke, he was out yesterday afternoon, and him + Mum are off to the Isle Of Wight on holiday today

Now you know where I get some of my craziness from.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

As mad as that may seem, there is actually a logic isn't there?

As in, get in what you can, don't stop etc?

EDIT: though running to Tesco's does sound a little bit bonkers.

Yeah the holiday seems logical, they could probably do with one (my mum as well, after the worry). I more meant walking so far, using a hedge trimmer and that run. Apparently he was so dizzy on Tuesday that he couldn't get off the sofa... then he did all that before going into hospital on Saturday!

To be honest I wished my Dad would have been like that, he had a mini stroke many years ago and it stopped him in his tracks for a good while, not physically but mentally..

Really good attitude imo, he obviously must feel ok too...

Cheers Glassers. Since retiring they go on about 6 holidays a year which is absolutely the right way to go about it IMO. Live life to the full!

Don’t want to play this down Dollers, but mini strokes can be much ado about nothing, and caused by stress. My wife had one a few months back. Of course, at your father’s age he should be taking things very easily. Did they scan him , and find out the extent of the stroke?

A few months ago, Mrs Factual walked into the lounge and said 'i don't feel right'. She said she was writing a WhatsApp to a friend, and all the words were jumping on top of each other. I looked at her phone; she'd typed the same phrase 2-3 times. We watched TV for a short while. The Apprentice - You're Fired was on. Rather concerned, when Tom Allen appeared I asked who he was. She didn't know. I told her it was Tom Allen. 'That's not Tom Allen', she said. I showed her his picture on the then internet. 'Oh,' she said, 'it must be'.

The following day we'd both been thinking the same thing. Mrs F (now feeling fine) spoke to a friend whose husband had had a mini-stroke. She urged to call 111 as the symptoms sounded identical to her husband's.

111 arranged an ambulance, as a non-emergency. Ten hours later it hadn't arrived, so we told them not to bother.

On Monday, we rang the GP. He took some details over the phone and said he'd send them electronically to WSH. He also prescribed her some statins, which would help if she had indeed had a mini-stroke.

Less than an hour later, as I was collecting the pills, WSH rang Mrs F and told her to come up straight away. WSH runs a TIA assessment clinic every day.

We trotted up there. After a blood test, MRI scan, ultrasound of the carotid artery etc, the diagnosis was....

...for the first time in her life Mrs F had had a migraine. The consultant said for every three people referred to them, two will have had a migraine.

We were, to put it mildly, very relieved.

Hope your dad keeps well.

They did scan him, said it was a mild stroke, and gave him some medication that contains aspirin. Other than that I couldn't tell you.

EDIT: I think he had all the scans/checks Facters mentions above, and equally got him in pretty quickly once they had the first results from the GP.

Doesn't scan.

Don't give up the day job just yet.

Keep trying, though.
