He didn't drive the car either if that's what you are referring to!

Lawrence and Bennett were arrested. Keogh suffered serious injuries as a passenger. Lawrence and Bennett admitted the charges and got community service. Keogh simply said he felt responsible as captain and Derby sacked him whilst keeping the other two (worth millions apiece).

Given ITFC have just had the excellent Jason in with his inspirational tale, they really aren't going to sign someone responsible for drink driving are they. I can't imagine Ashton isn't fully satisfied with Keogh.

He was the passenger badly injured in the back seat. Blame Tom Lawrence.

He got in the car knowing the driver was drunk so was complicit.

The second bid also included some mini-cheddars, so hopefully will have swung the decision.

He might not have known Lawrence was drunk. But a group of footballers out for dinner and drinks on a team bonding session… might make you think “taxi would be a good idea here!”

A couple of hundred thousand for ageing cover seems ridiculous to me though!

He will likely make 20+ appearances with injuries and coming off the bench.

This is just covering our bases.

If we get a injury he could be massive to us probably a leader as well money well spent

As long as we get a decent sell on clause just in case he develops into a talent, I’ll be happy.

Whilst I think paying up to £200k for 36 year old CB in League One sounds a little bonkers, he does come with pedigree. Last season we lost Edmundson v Lincoln and I didn’t feel comfortable leaning on Burgess without a leader at the back. Keogh probably would have got us a few more points through that end of season spell (albeit promotion wasn’t really on in hindsight).

He seems a good insurance policy and we have a little more money in the coffers these days I guess.

I suspect there were other options we were looking at but couldn’t get the deal done and this is a backup option. There’s a lot of logic to it. He’ll add experience and a bit of mental toughness that you need for a slog of a season, just by being around the squad however much he plays. And 27 games last year suggests he could still contribute a lot.

So yeah, covering our bases and adding some.
