Does Keogh displace Janoi? 16:40 - Aug 10 with 4382 viewsMullet

I get the concern about selling either Woolf or Fridge, and he's here to allow Ndaba another loan; but surely he plays a lot this season given his quality?

If it's Janoi that misses out that seems incredibly harsh and whilst the other two CB's have the odd moment, it'd be bizarre to see them lose their place. Even with 5 subs it'd be odd to use Keogh to close out games too so it will be really interesting to see how KmcK manages this aspect.

With al this in mind, it does raise the question as to why he’s been signed. He’s a great addition but the gulf between Ndaba and him is colossal and no-one in that back three deserves to be dropped for a player who is nearing retirement, it’s illogical. I can only assume he’s preferred as a back-up rather than Burgess.

Why is it ilogical? He is the most experienced and I suspect best centre back at the club. As they say about the yoofs, if he is good enough, then play him. Mogga was one of the first names on the teamsheert in his time at the club.

Illogical disrupting a very well established defensive line up when our problems are in the final third, not in defence. I’m happy we have some experience and quality of a Keogh but who gets dropped and why? It’s Burgess who goes from the bench for me.

Burgess looks shaky whenever I’ve seen him, looks good for the vast majority of a match, but there are always 1 or 2 moments that may be costly and Saturday was a prime example, he was very very lucky not to get a red card, also got me end od last season for a silly challenge.

The only Muff in Town.

It is illogical not to take the opportunities to improve our defence.

That’s not the point I made. I answered Mullet’s question that I think it’s illogical to drop Janoi and also acknowledged it’s good to have Keogh here, just not at the expense of dropping Janoi, Fridge or Wolf.

You'd have to dramatically change our shape to accommodate Keogh going in Donacien's spot, because he's not going to be an overlapping right back/centre back hybrid. You'd also disrupt our best attacking partnership from last year, in order to accommodate a more defensive player.

Keogh in the middle and Woolfy right side was my thought. Harsh on JD but I just can’t see Keogh being on the bench much.

You posted that it was illogical to disrupt an established defence.

I disagree, it is worth disrupting if you can bring in better defenders.

I don't know because we really seem to have, over last 4-5 games last season, and this, be playing a proper back 4 rather than a back 3. The hybrid has really shifted that way and I don't see any of GE, LW or RK being able to play that right back role.

Even when KM spoke about CBs the other day re their age, he doesn't include JD as one.

I think he is here to back up initially and push LW and GE, and if he gets an opportunity he'll likely take it and be very difficult to dislodge

Hmmm... would Woolfenden be able to replicate Donacien's attacking play? (Never shows a lot of composure in the box does Woolfie).

Conversely I wonder if we'd miss Woolfenden's pace as a sweeper (sometimes he just puts the afterburners on and puts out a fire). That said I suppose Keogh's reading of the game is going to be worth a few yards.

With Woolfy playing the whole game on Tuesday, I wouldn't be surprised if hes dropped for Saturday.

I can't imagine he comes in ahead of Woolfenden or Fridge,

JD for as good as he has been isn't a natural CB, can quite easily see Keogh playing a lot of games this season, people forget he played 35 times in the Championship last year.

I think Janoi is our only CB at present that can put in the work required down the flank.

Not just constantly on the go and fit as a butcher's dog, but also with the one-on-one defensive ability when he has to get back or because only very rarely is his wingback deep enough to help out.

For who? As far as I’m aware, Keogh has been carrying an injury.

Given your persistent toxic positivity and snarling at anyone and everyone, it's pretty telling you read that post as "concerns" rather than a simple talking point about the quality in the squad.

Mind you, that's indicative of the debate at times on social media and the need to have no subtlety.

I'm sorry I see to hurt your feelings love, this was truly not my intention I was just gobsmacked at your suggestion and merely asking did you read or hear what the player said himself, which I thought a perfectly reasonable response to your post!

I bared you no harm or bad will and there was not even an insult in sight from myself, nary a swear word formed from my mouth and yet you ridicule, demean and belittle me, my snarling as you call it wasn't present and when my so called snarling is present its because I don't suffer fools gladly for that I apologise to no one!!

And if you deem my positivity as "toxic" then maybe that's just because last season I got you to finally admit that you had your "expectations " way to high when you clearly didn't wish to do so and you absolutely hated me for it, that's fine carry on, I really don't mind, and trust me your little demeaning snipes will never alter the way I post,if myself, and or my posts and replies irk you that much then please put me on ignore!

Let go of the grudges and the world will be a happier place!!

So Mullet, what are your expectations for this year??

I dunno, you'll be less delusional and able to read threads?

Christ knows what version of events you've concocted there but the idea I was aiming too low last season and being unhappy with 11th is some sort of victory for you is a take.

It does seem like you are struggling with yourself certainly.

And now you see fit to patronise, I claim no victory, no one involved with ITFC was happy with 11th so your point there is moot. we live in the now and this season all that matters , I was merely stating fact about your expectations!!

Being optimistic and positive in far from delusional but I don't have to justify the way I support my club to the likes of you, your condescending nature just can't resist coming out, I've been reading many years thank you!!

"It does seem like you are struggling with yourself certainly. "

How things seem and how things actually are, are two completely different things, happy thoughts Mullet!!

I’m pretty sure Keogh is here as a reserve - he’s carrying an injury at the moment as it is. I’d say, due to our shape, Donacien should be the last played to be dropped from defence. Hopefully he can provide some guidance and advice to Woolfenden and Edmundson.

I reckon it’ll be Burgess or Edmondson x

Think what everyone needs to think this is a longgggg season 46 games. Remember Edmondson last season and the wolf for whatever reason injuries suspension and illness have missed games.
I believe we need 5 players for 3 positions as they will all play a part
At sides like Sheffield Wednesday we will need a hairy ars*d leader at the back to get results for me a important signing who all the other defenders can learn from

One year deal, literally here to be by GlasgowBlue 10 Aug 2022 14:34
No way has he left a Championship club just to sit on the bench and be a strong character in the dressing room.

If I was a betting man then I'd say he will end up playing more games than Donacien. Which may sound unfair after the season he has just had but McKenna will want us to push on to the next level..

Exactly but it won’t be Donacien, it’ll be Burgess !
