Bolan was a massive early influence on me as a teenager. Still love listening to T.Rex.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Bolan was a great talent and showman...arguably he was heavily influenced by Bowie who could also be credited with 'inventing' glam rock - although he clearly gave us much more than that over the years...

Bolan went glam two years before Bowie. But Bolan struggled to adapt, whereas Bowie was always one step ahead of the trends post Glam.

didn't bolan die before glam ran an it's course ? so would have had a hard job to adapt.
on a side note little richard was probably the first glam rocker, ahead of his time

Bolan had become a spent creative force by 1973. He had a lot of talent & was an underrated guitarist & great front man, but even his successful T.Rex singles were by then all sounding the same & his lyrics were trite.

I think Bolan was heavily influenced by seeing Bowie in the band Hype in 1970 at the Atomic Sunrise Festival...

They were contemporaries in the early days with a friendly and occasionally jealous rivalry. Bowie was definitely as influenced by Bolan in the early days but he just grew and grew whereas Bolan stagnated somewhat. Bolan was back on the up by the time he died though, having lost some weight and apparently having his songwriting mojo back. I'd recommend reading Tony Visconti's book

No. Bolan died at the height of Punk. In fact he’d just come off tour with the Damned. In his last TV show he introduced the Jam and furred with Bowie, who’d just released Heroes. Glam was long gone.

He’d a premonition he was going to be killed in a car, which is supposedly why he never learnt to drive. Similar to Ronnie Van Zant who knew he’d not make 30 and was killed when the plane he was in hit a tree (a different tree) a few months before his 30th. I wonder if there’s anything in that sh*t. I wonder if you can actually forecast/foresee your own death. I’ve recurring dreams of being in a plane crash, but as we’ve stopped flying because we’re good little eco-warriors, it’s probably something I don’t need to worry about!

"we’ve stopped flying" won't stop a plane landing on you.

Had you considered that?

It could be something really embarrassing too like a model aeroplane.

I had one I spent weeks making as a kid. It had a balsa frame and a sort of rice paper type covering that had to be coated with some clear substance or other which, when dried, set hard.

It them took a 4ft elastic band which took forever to twist enough for it to be able to propel the thing.

Then you had no control over it, just let it go and hope for the best...

That didn't weigh enough to kill a squirrel even with a direct hit.

Oh great, thanks for that!

My grandad used to make balsa planes. He was a lovely fella, one of the nicest and most humble people I’ve ever met. I can’t remember whether the planes ever worked though as he was interested in building them but not really in flying them. It was good entertainment though back in the 70s and 80s.

I found that flying them was a terrible idea as they tended to break on impact.

I got away with it a few times but generally my efforts were in deficit.

On a tangent one of my neighbours has just been to France fishing. I don't know how involved you are/have been with fishing but he's showed some of his gear and it's basically cheating.

He's got a remote controlled boat that takes both bait (to bait up) and also the baited hook too. He doesn't even have to cast for goodness' sake.

The floor of the boat opens on command, it has little lights on it and everything.

The rods have alarms...

It's only a step down from going to the lake with a trawler. How is that fishing?

I mean, they do catch some pretty big feck-off fish, but so they should with all that stuff.
