The ref today could have made more of a stand by abandoning the game. That would have drawn attention to the issue (though we wouldn't have been impressed at the time unless we were given the win!) |
You’re right because abandoned games in practice will be replayed because the EFL probably haven’t got the balls to award games because of the fall out that will create, but if a ref continues a match when he knows that there is a risk of players and officials being injured by missiles, where does the liability for that lie? |  |

We finished Barnsley off and look what happened there. Game plan worked today although we were under the cosh for 15mins in the first half we did weather it. I would have backed us to have held on today if it wasnt for 2 terrible decisions by the officials. |
2 terrible decisions? Surely you aren’t questioning the ref for the first goal, the only thing you can question on being a terrible decision for the first goal is wtf Burns was going giving away the free kick with his silly foul |  |

I have to say, every time I look at it it looks as though he's level with the ball to me. Very hard to tell from the angle we have, but it is very very close either way and certainly not "miles" offside. |  |

Whatever you think of the officials they are entitled to expect a safe place of work. It’s the second time this season. I wouldn’t blame the officials one bit if they just abandoned the game. EFL would then have to get involved rather than brushing it under the carpet (which is probably what will happen here). |
I take your point re safe place of work & agree with it, but the answer isn't to make an incorrect call which could affect a side's promotiom chances because you're afraid of potential criminal behaviour by fans.
It'd have required even more bottle to abandon the match than rule the Owls '"goal" offside, so I don't think abandonment was ever going to happen! |  |

Pic of a Wednesday forum. Most of them agree that it was offside. Some suggesting that the hostile crowd , perhaps playing apart in not disallowing it?.. The ref and lino had a brief word apparently, before it was confirmed a "legit" goal...
Picture doesn't show if anyone in our LB position is playing Smith on side.
Draw your own conclusions. But looks half a yard off to me.

Looks closer than the iFollow angle, which looked miles offside. The only parts of his body that doesn't count for offside is his hands and arms. Objectively he is offside. However I'm more forgiving of the linesman's decision, having seen this angle, than I was in the moment. It went against us, we move on.
