Republican lefties on here should note that Ipswich have only ever won a trophy with a Lizzie in a prime position All hail the PM.

Bonos points for wiping away tears upon command, clutching young children who obviously don’t want to be there. And instructing such children what to say to the camera.

Wash your mouth out, 250k people queued up to see the queen don't you know, which is significantly less than watch the footie most weekends. And best not mention the cost of it all, not like there's anything better to spend the money on.

Precisely, why should non football loving tax payers fund policing for a sport watched by small minority of the British public, the price of a ticket should cover all costs including policing [Post edited 20 Sep 2022 8:47]

not in this case, i reckon. Groups in society doing their stuff, all cost the police money (other sports as well as football, or just pissheads ruining town centres each weekend), so why single out an event which the majority wanted?

For me, yes the costs of it were immense, but it was the way in which royalists dominated the media, be it printed, visual or social, which annoyed me - to such an extent that any criticism was met with patronising vitriol. James McClean apparently hates Britain, if a republican enjoyed the bank holiday then they are hypocrites and criticising any business that wished to stay open. Posters on here praising Rangers and eagerly wanting to pour hate upon Celtic and Liverpool fans. A lot of people simply came across as using the monarchs death to concrete their own thoughts. Yes the majority are royalists but it was the way in which the BBC and a lot of people that projected that grief which annoyed me. [Post edited 20 Sep 2022 9:16]

Harsh to criticise a republican for enjoying a bank holiday they didn't ask for! There are loons everywhere I spose. I too got bored of the wall-to-wall coverage, but it was possible to switch off / scroll through / just enjoy the extra day free.

I was wondering how much policing cost. So that £8M is just for the capital as well. Wow. My take away from this is that royal funerals are very cheap and we could afford to have several a year

I’m surprised by the number of left leaning Royalists on here to be honest. Billionaire Musk/Bezos mistreat workers, avoid taxes = bad Billionaire Royal family mistreat people for centuries, avoid taxes = good

Royal funerals are also way more impressive then Royal weddings. I suggest we only do funerals from now on

It's Tuesday! on 10:27 - Sep 20 with 1566 views | Ryorry | The late Queen was better loved by the general population of the UK than any politician in my lifetime except perhaps Churchill, who I remember also having a grand state send-off. Is it really too much to ask for respect on the day of her funeral? If antis were prepared to be a bit more open-minded, they might have got something out of yesterday's proceedings - I particularly enjoyed the words of Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury, in his sermon at Westminster Abbey - "Those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power and privileges are long forgotten”.

I'm not so sure about that. Given Charles' reported views on slimming down the monarchy, he may well go for something rather lower-key. That's not to say the media won't go OTT, especially if there's nothing else to fill airtime at that point.

So it’s the fault of republicans that they didn’t get enough out of yesterday by being republicans in the first place. I totally agree, as a remainer it’s my fault that Brexit is going tits up because I wasn’t Brexitey enough.

Not really, cos nothing was open. Your choice was to go out for a walk or stay indoors and do stuff. It was like a day of lockdown again.

I am old enough to remember watching in 1953, albeit on television. Back then 29,000 military personnel took part in the procession that took 45 minutes to pass any given point. The return route to Buckingham Palace was by means of a five mile route, lined by an additional 15,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen from UK, Colonies or commonwealth members. 3,000,000 lined the streets. Total cost was £1.5m hate to think what that would have cost at 2022 prices. Presumably there would be even higher levels of security than 70 years ago
