Tractor Boys still the most popular nickname.... 10:42 - Oct 11 with 3535 views | itfcjoe | Did a Twitter Poll which got over 2k votes surprisingly, but 58% of people prefer Tractor Boys, 31% prefer Town and just 10% like the Super Blues

Reflecting Ipswich's engineering past, perhaps we could change our nickname and logo to the Cranes. The logo could incorporate an image of the works, along with a picture of the bird. [Post edited 11 Oct 2022 12:46]

I'd quite like us to do "You are my Gyppeswyk ..."

Now there's a good idea for a nickname. But probably harking back too much for our forward-facing owners.

Reminds me of a former colleague who introduced himself as 'Pistol Pete' - cringe. I don't really think it's any different for football clubs? Non-Ipswich fans across the country know us as the tractor boys, we need to get over it.

I like it, but I don't really think it's a runner... It would start OK with "Give us a 'G'..." but descend into utter chaos from there onwards.

And spare a thought for our new commentator Glenn who would probably struggle with it.

Smacks too much of identifying with the Danelaw to me, and I wouldn't like opposition supporters calling us a load of C'nuts...

Tractor Boys still the most popular nickname.... on 13:26 - Oct 11 with 1184 views | Menton | I would never call us the Tractor Boys but I secretly quite like it. I think it’s unique and quiet self-depreciating. I don’t think anyone aside from a 35+ ITFC fan would ever know that the Super Blues was Ipswich.

Tractor Boys still the most popular nickname.... on 12:16 - Oct 11 by Sharkey | Begs the question what's really a nickname, and what a brand name. I mean does anyone walk into a pub and say 'I've lost my phone, can anyone tell me how the Super Blues got on?' . (Just like would any Man U. fan ask hoe the Red Devils got on?) They might well ask how 'Town' got on. Also, Ipswich is a kind of in-between club in terms of its status. Colchester have a nickname that is actually the official name (on t-shirts etc) but is actually used in everyday speech (usually ins sentences like 'I haven't been to see the U's since they left Layer Road', or 'the U's are even worse than last year'. ). But fans also often refer to the 'Mighty' U's'. At this point, everyone understands there is affectionate irony at play here. But for Ipswich, which has been a great club, this type of irony doesn't sit well. So Super Blues sounds more like branding than a nickname. Personally, in my neck of south Suffolk, people say 'Town' when they're discussing the club on the bus or wherever. |
I reckon that most who support ITFC refer to our team as 'Town' or 'The town' when talking to each other. I mean, do any of us actually go to the pub after a game and talk to our mates about how 'The Tractor Boys' got on. I bet even Sitters doesn't. But 'Town' isn't really a nickname is it. I reckon loads of supporters of teams with a 'Town' after the name talk about 'Town'! It's the same at 'The Blues'. So 'Tractor Boys' is the best we have as a nickname - and as someone else pointed out, nicknames are usually what other people call you aren't they. So Although we support 'Town' or The Town' I'm happy with others also calling me a 'tractor boy. - even though i'm over 60. (In fact I'm happy when anyone calls me 'boy' these days - as long as it's not 'Old boy'!)

Tractor Boys still the most popular nickname.... on 10:56 - Oct 11 by ITFC_Forever | Super Blues or Town. Tractor Boys is hideous. Still inwardly recoil when people say it to me when I'm chatting to them. |
Anyone who cringes or recoils at "Tractor Boys", rather than owning it (which is what we did when it first emerged), needs to work on their self esteem Yours, A proud Tractor Boy, aged almost 50.

George Costanza: “Call me T-bone” Sadly they’re not in the same division at the moment, but the monkey-hangers v the donkey-lashers is one of the great fixtures.

Tractor Boys still the most popular nickname.... on 15:14 - Oct 11 with 1041 views | Sawtrich | Pretty much all official nicknames are a bit cringe and aren't used by fans to describe their team so I'm not fussed what the club choose to use. I always think of us as The Towen (pronounced in my grandparents thick Suffolk accent).
