In my opinion, only my opinion, that is a ridiculous amount to go away to watch a meaningless game in a meaningless competition that you only qualify for by failure. 750 for a home game is too many, I think.

I agree. It is a ridiculous amount, and credit to all those who attend. The op that we were taking 1500+ is misreading our sales.

Meaningless? Wembley, shiny cup and free pizza! That's one part more than FA Cup delivers... (Well if you ignore European qualification) Pretty sure we took a lot less to Everton for FA Cup QF in '85

Agreed, I can't even bring myself to watch the stuffed crust trophy on iFollow from the comfort of my own house for a tenner. It's a useful competition in that we can play some youngsters and fringe players, those coming back from injury, get minutes into them etc so in that respect I hope we stay in it. Can't say I would be too bothered about going to Wembley to watch a final but perhaps I'll change my mind if it happens.

And of course you are entitled to your opinion but for me and thousands of other loyal Town fans no Ipswich game is meaningless . Add to that that treating Cup games as Meaningless what ever Cup it may be has contributed to us being in this difficult league to get out off .

I am not going to argue because, as you say, it is based on opinions but there are a couple of points in your post here that I either take exception to or would dispute. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Brian Clough took the league Cup seriously as he thought winning was a habit. Win this and then go on an win something else. Might be meaningless now but winning at Wembley in front of 40,000 Town fans won't be.

If we even make the QFs all those anti this competition will be out in force. May not admit it on here as they’d lose Internet points, but they’d be there, no doubt

Don’t think I’d quite put our esteemed PJH into that bracket! Personally I’m not fussed about this comp, but if we’re in it then let’s use it to our advantage as much as we can. If that gets us to Wembley then great, I’ll take that (like we took the Texaco cup back 8n the day) . It will be a trophy, a stepping stone, etc. Except I doubt we will get to the final anyway so it’s all a bit of a mute point!

Clough also took the Anglo-Scottish Cup seriously, with Forest winning it in 1976, their first trophy under his management. Town also took its predecessor, the Texaco Cup seriously under SBR, winning it in 1973. Times have changed hugely since then. I still think most fans would prefer their club to take the FA Cup more seriously, as it used to add a bit of glamour in what was for many a mundane time of the season for mid table clubs, but I'm not going to get excited about the Pizza Cup.

Not me. I want us out of it as soon as possible and hopefully without getting any more injuries. Luckily KM will rest 8 or 9 of our better players for Tuesday but there will still be injury risks to some that we could do without losing for games that do matter.

That’s fair enough then Be a shame for such a long standing fan to miss an ITFC final, at the new Wembley, if we were to get there. But personal preference isn’t it

I really fail to understand why you feel Ipswich first team games don't matter and worse still want us to lose so we exit the comptition and i think we are of similar age so it not just one of us OAP's being out of date . Winning games any games adds to confidence and as for injury these are footballers that is their job playing games training keeps them fit it does not work the other way round wrap them up in cotton wool is not an option . If and when I see ITFC at Wembley again, I want it to be in a competition or game that there is some pride in winning. Not sure that winning a competition that you have to be a failure to enter (relegation plus failure to get promoted) is a source of pride. I do not suppose that Wigan, Rotherham and Sunderland are devastated because they could not enter the Pizza Cup this season.

Actually, I do not consider them to be first team games. I know that the team that gets picked will not be our best available team, and rightly so. You need to pick your best available team for games that matter.

It would do ITFC absolutely no harm at all to get to Wembley and experience it. It's seems quite likely that this group is going to go places so the more of those sorts of occasions we can get used to the better. Plus it'd be a decent day out. Any celebrations would obviously be different to if it was a play-off final, or an FA Cup etc.
