So today is the day I've dreamt of for a long time 14:40 - Oct 21 with 3346 viewsstickymockwell

I'm taking my 5yo boy to his first ever match. I wanted to pick the right one. Full crowd and the lights makes it even more special. I think I'm going to get quite emotional.

"What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

“It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up the stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him, and without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

Took my boy for the first time this season. He has now drop kicked his Manchester City obsession into touch and is a full on Town supporter.

Nice.

Still worth doing - if he hears his name over the PA system?

Give them a call - I'm sure they'd be as accommodating as they can.

Excellent post.

I hope you have a lovely evening together. Of course here's hoping for 3 big points for Town tonight, but frankly, win, lose or draw it's going to be a special occasion and memory for you both.

I was probably a similar age when my dad first took me along, it was a pre season friendly and we sat in the Cobbold. I'm 35 now and tonight I'm taking him. Looking forward to picking him up later and squeezing in a couple of pre match pints. The result becomes less important when I consider how lucky I am to be doing it. I say that now, no doubt I'll still be telling the ref how sh1t he is after 80 minutes.

Hope you and your lad have a great time

I hope your boy has a fantastic time. I still remember the first time I saw PR like it was yesterday.

I got my 8 year old his first season ticket this year and tonight he is mascot on the eve of his 9th birthday. We have 8 of his friends with us tonight too. Will hopefully convert a few!

We’re all buzzing!

You made I cry, thinking of my dear old Dad. In a nice way. Ta.

Edit: Caught up in my own reminisces, I somehow forgot to say the most important thing which is that I hope your lad and you both have an absolutely brilliant time tonight and at many more matches before, during and after our next two promotions. COYB!

My 5yo keeps asking to go, but it's a tough ask from the North-West. Looking forward very much to hopefully doing it later this season.

Good for you and him.

For my first game (Luton at home in 1983), and both my daughters, Ipswich scored in the first 2-3 minutes.
Hopefully they will do the same tonight.

Fantastic.
Junior was a mascot against Derby too at a similar age and totally loved it. The lights tonight should make it even more special.

How exciting, I took my 5 year olds to their first match last year, it was a challenge to sit still for 90 mins, so take plenty of snacks/bribes. They enjoyed it but now at 6 and a half they are Mutch more aware and into it, let’s hope for some goals and a win.
