Dozzell on 07:39 - Nov 3 by ibbleobble | Dozzel would get in our squad, of course he would but my point is he won’t go any further than where he’s at now. Agree the injury was career changing for him. |
Sorry was more at the post above saying he wouldn't make our bench

Dozzell on 08:21 - Nov 3 by textbackup | He’d not get in our team ahead of Morsy and Evans. Whether KMc would find a position for him further up the pitch however, I’m unsure |
I think he'd play with Morsy instead of Evans - the criticisms of Dozzell could easily be levelled at Evans, and whilst Evans is stronger, Dozzell is much more mobile and a better passer. It's just a shame we never got to find out what McKenna thought of these players, and could have seen what was done with some undoubtedly talented guys. For all talk of academy not producing - we ended up getting £1.5m for Downes, £1m for Dozzell, £500k for Gibbs, £200k for Bishop and the same for Lankester......and then a further £2-3m for Downes this year which more than covers all the fees we've paid out

Dozzell on 08:26 - Nov 3 by itfcjoe | Would have loved to have seen what he would have done with Teddy Bishop as well, but Downes under McKenna would have been an absolute dream - he's doing so well now at West Ham. Won't be long before he's knocking on door of England squad |
Sorry Joe - I watched the United game (for my sins and I apologise) but Flynn is a mile off the England squad...miles Not saying he hasn't the potential but he's miles off just yet but depends on your "won't be long before......." timeline is ? For me personally he's a season or two from even thinking abut it let alone knocking on the door Again good luck to him and I'd be as proud as the next Town fan as and when and if he does play for England

I don't mean the upcoming World Cup, just more at some point in the next WC cycle, I'd be amazed if he isn't capped - although basically any English player at a top 7 club who plays regularly will get that and looks as though he will be that Presume Rice will go and he will end up in that role which will showcase himself more, as that advanced role didn't really suit him although he was better vs Liverpool and the game before United

Yeah sorry - didn't think for one minute you meant this WC but yeah perhaps in another 4 years time he would have developed massively (hopefully) but think he's got a long way to go yet and as you say in a better role than he played on Sunday for sure Would be superb to see him at a WC as "One of Our Own" when we're in the Prem ourselves

Not had many players in England squads at World Cups that have come through the youth system here - Butcher in 86 and 90, with Dyer in 2002 as the only ones in my lifetime

The physical presence of Evans, in this league, is what makes him so important to us. Poor AD just won’t ever have that about him. I’m sure it was you said when he broke on the scene, about Jason being physically massive when he was 17/18, AD is just built different isn’t he. Yep, it’s certainly had a decent input of late hasnt it

Football’s a game of opinions of course, but to say Dozzell is “much more mobile and a better passer” is a massive stretch, in my opinion. Evans has been debatably one of our best players this season, chipping in with goals and assists whilst also making things happen with his cross-field passes and forward thinking. I’m not saying Dozzell is a bad player by any means, but I don’t think Dozzell got any assists for us, certainly couldn’t tackle like Evans, either. Dozzell was anonymous in most games for us and was again on tv last night, Evans is clearly more influential for us than Dozzell ever was. Of course the above is just my opinion.

I wouldn't say those points are stretch, whilst also agreeing with the qualities of Evans you have highlighted. Dozzell is more mobile, no doubt. He has also got himself a championship move pretty much purely based on his passing ability. Assists aren't the only measure. Dozzell when he was here didnt have the same role as Evans did, but Andre can certainly pass. Does that mean hes better for us than Evans, no. Evans has brilliant qualities that Andre doesn't have and has been brilliant for us.

I'm just not sure it's a terribly illuminating comparison. Dozzell played basically one full season for us, in the worst Ipswich team in about 70 years. He played behind a forward line that was utterly ineffectual, for two managers who were totally clueless. In this team he played as defensive midfielder and still created the most chances (our forwards robbed him of a tonne of assists by being utter w*nk). He's now playing at a division above and we don't get to see how effective he'd be playing behind a good forward line for a well-drilled, attacking team. Nor do we get to see how effective Lee Evans would be in a tough away game against the 5th-best team in the division above (although I have seen Evans play in Cook's dysfunctional Ipswich team and he was a good deal worse than Dozzell was). Sometimes you've got to recognise that different division are different challenges!

Evans has been excellent for us this season, but that doesn't mean he is a particularly mobile player because he isn't, Dozzell gets around the pitch far better, but Evans is stronger. Evans is a very good cross field passer but Dozzell is a superb passer of the ball - it's basically all there is to his game in reality. Evans has zero open play assists for us though - 2 last season from set pieces (Bonne v Shrews and Fridge v Donny) and 1 this year from a corner (Chaplin vs Accrington) Evans is much more physical, much better in the air which is a big help in central midfield (And from set pieces) and a better tackler - if very reckless at times - but there is a reason why he didn't cut it in the Championship and ended up back in League 1 in what should be his prime and it his athleticism

Dozzell on 08:54 - Nov 4 with 1348 views | tractorshark | Evans and Dozzell are very different players. You can only really judge them on their effectiveness to the team. Dozzell has talent but he’s way too lightweight for the higher levels of professional football. And that’s not just in physique, it’s also mentally. He gets bullied out of games way too easily. And I’m sorry, he and others may not like this, but he is trading off his dad’s name. Again very different players but Ipswich fans all wanted Andre to be a success because of Jason and his links to the club, so everyone cut him slack. Did those same fans cut Evans slack last season? No. If the surnames had been reversed you would have seen a different reaction. I imagine QPR took a chance because they could see potential in Andre and the pedigree of his dad. But, like Ipswich, they’ve discovered one decent pass in 90 minutes isn’t enough to influence a match. I hope Andre proves me wrong but I don’t see him lasting in the Championship. He will go down as one of our better bits of business.

If comparing him to Lee Evans though like this thread has in the 2 seasons Evans has been here he has scored 4 open play goals and provided zero open play assists - and 3 of those goals were in one game! He’s taken a couple of hundred set pieces and got 3 assists from them - it just isn’t Dozzell’s game and isn’t Evans game - judging players by that metric is silly, like it would be if you judged CBs by it

Sometimes looking at stats can quite often muddy opinions and don't always offer the bigger picture We had over 74% possession against Lincoln and still lost for example I think ultimately if I were offered LE or AD , I'd have to say LE everyday of the week for his overall general effectiveness in a game . He may make errors but he doesn't totally disappear at times like AD Again it's all about opinions I guess
