Leam Richardson Sacked (n/t) on 16:16 - Nov 10 by hype313 | Considering they are bottom of Championship spending, it was always going to be a tough ask, you would have thought given the success he had last year, he would be given longer than 3 months. I think it's harsh. |
Football is cut throat though. Last season means nothing. Even more so if they go down this season. A couple of losses I'd say harsh. But 1 in 10 and 2nd bottom. I'm not shocked. Appreciate the other posters reply too regarding the behind scene stuff.. but like mick did in different circumstances here.. their only interest will be for the manager to be able to be good as his job and have certain results regardless of anything happening behind scenes. Stupid yes. But again that's just football.

Leam Richardson Sacked (n/t) on 18:34 - Nov 10 with 1212 views | Trequartista | On one hand this is another case of a manager losing his job for being too successful. Had he came 5th last season and lost in the playoffs and was challenging this season, he'd still be in a job. On the other hand, as far as the owners are concerned, the past has no relevance, and the only factor they wish to consider is if they see Richardson as likely to keep them up.

Leam Richardson Sacked (n/t) on 15:31 - Nov 10 by FrimleyBlue | Harshly sacked? He's won 1 in 10 games and sit 2nd bottom. |
If McKenna achieved back-to-back promotions and we were 2nd bottom of the Premier League having won 1 in 10 would you sack him?

I'd expect the owners to have a discussion yes. We've seen managers given to much time before and made a change when it's to late. I don't see us having that issue though as if we get to prem I can see us giving KM a squad capable of holding our own up there.

Well yes. That's why I said I don't see us having that problem.

Leam Richardson Sacked (n/t) on 12:17 - Nov 10 by itfcjoe | Wigan have turned into a total mess in the last few weeks - not paying players etc. I wonder if Will Keane signed that new contract in the end? |
Please don't toy with me like this lads.

Leam Richardson Sacked (n/t) on 16:26 - Nov 10 by itfcjoe | Were a shell of a club losing players every week with no owners and he kept them in League 1 Were about 8-10th in bookies odds last year and win the league Then fall into relegation zone for first time all season - and are still just 6 points away from Reading in 12th So 2 seasons of massive overperformance and one season of probably about par is harsh just in football terms before you see the rest of the rubbish being dealt with. Will Keane was going to come here before deadline day, presumably on a longer better contract, but he gets offered a new deal to stay - sounds from the above as though he hasn't signed it - how motivated is he right now when been stiffed out of tens of thousands of pounds |

No I wouldn’t. I’d back him. Ok, I’m decrepit enough to remember the Robson years and on the ‘poor run of results, see you later’ approach, he’d have been gone long before he developed his first good team in 72/73. Ancient history, but the principle of believing in people and backing them still applies. On the face of it, Arsenal seem to have done that with Arteta and that’s turned out ok. The default setting in football often seems to be for the manager a string of poor results = the sack. I don’t know what the situation is at Wigan, but if the have problems behind the scenes, cannot pay the players etc in my view sacking Richardson is precisely the opposite action to what they should have taken. That’s football, I suppose.

I'm not sure how reported it was, presume it was on here as Sir Philip of Ham mentioned it on Blue Monday Deadline Day special.....just had a look in archives: TWTD understands former Blues striker Will Keane was also one of those of interest. The 29-year-old, whose current terms are up next summer, has had a successful spell at Wigan since his release by Town in the summer of 2020 and we understand is set to stay at with the Latics and sign a new deal. If we were interested then as a longer term signing that could step up with us, I don't see why we wouldn't be again but who knows.

Whilst managers get a shorter shelve life these days, they are able to bank credit in the bank and Richardson should have had more than enough

So it would appear will Keane didn't sign the new deal and therefore has 6 months left on his current contract. Under normal circumstances, that would mean Wigan looking for some sort of modest fee. But if they haven't been paying wages and honouring the contracts, i.e. a contract breach, then it would seem likely that players can just leave for free. If that turns out to be the case, surely we would want to take him?
