Bollox innit. I’m assuming it’s a turnover (change of possession, see rugby union) that has been forced through pressure on the ball. As opposed to the opposition just messing up and misplacing a pass or booting it out of touch.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I don’t much like the new fandangled phrases that are coming out of this WC. Sound way too American

It does doesn’t it. You only get plain turnovers in rugby, so it’s not come from there.

Useful stat for working out how well your off the ball work is going (and who exactly is contributing to that).

I know Lee Evans scores very highly on these sorts of measures for us.

Both are terms borrowed from NFL American Football, which means they are more likely to be understood by USA audience.

A forced turnover could be a direct tackle to win possession, or forcing an opposition player to lump it into touch, or nipping in and deflecting it to a teammate. So it is quite a broad term and therefore a useful metric.

Reception means receiving a pass successfully in NFL, where it is a key metric for an Offensive player, because more than a 75% success ratio would constitute a decent performance. In International football it is expected that players know how to control a football passed to them, so it isn't so useful, other than to show how often a player is passed to.

If it helps non-football "sports" audiences in the USA engage it's pretty harmless, isn't it?

Thanks for the explanation, I genuinely had no clue.
