Can we beat France? 10:28 - Dec 5 with 5179 views | blueasfook | Mbappe is awesome and they are very strong up front, but if we are on our game, I certainly dont see why we cant beat them. And if we do beat France, I think we are then looking like having a good chance to go on and win the tournament.

Can we beat France? on 11:17 - Dec 5 by Lord_Lucan | I think we need to steady ourselves and not concede in the first 30 mins, after which it's anyones game Actually, I think we have an excellent chance, in fact I think we will do it. I'm flying to sunny Glasgow later today - where I will remain until Friday. Did you get any info on that Indian place? |
Good luck getting to Glasgow today. Airport has been shut since 7am for a security incident, with people shuffled out to the carparks for 4 hours. And on the question, yes we can beat them. Especially as they have a depleted defence through injury

Can we beat France? on 11:59 - Dec 5 by blueasfook | Just hope it doesnt go to penalties. We know too well how that always ends for us. |
Pickford will save them all. Get those tiny little dinosaur arms out to tip Mbappe's penalty away and then Saka will smash in the winner, followed by the Stuart Pearce fist pump.

Can we beat France? on 11:34 - Dec 5 by giant_stow | I thought of you on saturday, maybe inaccurately - apologies if so - was drinking in the Kings arms with my norwich mate. Nice pub - not clever or pretty, just nice. |
FFS. That’s the closest pub to my office. I used to drink in there every week but they banned me about four years ago for absolutely no reason. About a year ago I bumped into the landlady as she said “Why haven’t you been in the pub”? I obviously replied “Because you bloody banned me” She then advised I was welcome but I decided to stay away - until about three weeks ago when I got completely p1ssed off with The Trafford. Kings Arms is ok - much better than the hell hole opposite. Arthur South’s son drinks in The Kings Arms on match days, he looks just like - Arthur South! I used to chit chat with him before the ban - he’s ok, but he used to always reserve the bar area where I sit which used to p1ss me off a bit. Edit - that’s the pub where i inadvertently took control of their TV with my phone and played the FA Cup final followed by The Demolition Derby featuring Alex Mathie - on YouTube I’ve tried before but I can’t find the thread. The one opposite was a sh1t hole. I used to go in there when the Kings Arms closed as it was open until stupid o clock - but I stopped going in as I was known as “The Ipswich tw&t” and would always get p1ssed up drink Herbert’s having a pop. I then diverted my custom to The Trafford but the staff are blooming useless - they have a complete lack of empty glass awareness. The silly cow didn’t forget she banned me, I think she realised she had been an arse. In fact it was a young barman who banned me. He said once as I entered “Im sorry Lucan, we’ve had a meeting and decided not to serve you anymore as you drink too much”. I mean, WTF! It’s like getting banned from the post office for buying too many stamps - furthermore , the last night I was in there before the ban I spent most of the evening at the bar talking to the landlady - who was completely bolloxed!

Can we beat France? on 13:47 - Dec 5 with 1475 views | Chrisd | Yes. Our biggest test by far, but I genuinely do believe we have a better team than them. The French will be as wary of us as we are of them, they know we'll be a serious threat to them retaining the trophy.

Can we beat France? on 11:10 - Dec 5 by Vaughan8 | France's midfield is no good. Just hasn't been found out yet. They pay basically 4 strikers/forwards so definitely focus on the attack. Fromwhat i've seen, they don't have that much. Heavily reliant on one player, which is something England aren't. As someone else said, if you stop Mbappe, then you've done the majority of it. |
I wish I had your optimism. France's midfield of Rabiot (Juve), Tchouameni (Real Madrid) and Griezmann (Athletico Madrid) is one of the best in this WC. I also think Deschamps is far more astute than Southgate. I think this one will be won in midfield and therefore I expect us to lose out unless it's a really ugly niggly match which will suit us perfectly.

Rabiot has been prostituted out to every club across Europe recently and his form for Juventus has been dreadful. Greizmann has been nowhere near his old self from a few years ago, the key to stopping Mbappe is stopping the supply line, I'm fully confident Henderson and Bellingham can do a job on their midfield with Rice behind mopping up.

Rabiot has made 11 league starts for Juve this season and started 5 or their 6 Champions League matches which is a bit odd if his form has been dreadful. Griezmann has been in great form in this WC. True, Mbappe is the standout performer but France are far from a one man team.
Can we beat France? on 17:24 - Dec 5 with 1321 views | Churchman | I think France are better than us, but only because of Mbappe. He and ten dustbins would trouble most teams. Greizmann is one heck of a player too and Giroud is no mug. I’m not keen on our centre halves and I don’t like Pickford. That’s the negatives dealt with. On the upside, despite looking shaky, we haven’t conceded goals that matter. The Iran consolations were just that after a hammering. I think Bellingham, Saka and Foden are excellent, Kane though fading still knows where the goal is, we are strong in the middle and overall, we have a bit about us. If we were to beat France, it won’t be a surprise. I think it’s that tight. Conclusion: yes, we can beat France.

I thought Kane was superb last night, and he's the only one who would walk into any other country's team. He creates so much, as well being a top notch finisher.
