Bottom line is the NHS is underfunded we need to be taxed more to pay for it.
In recent years the LibDems included in their manifesto a commitment to raise income tax by 1p in the £ across the board. It didn’t do their prospects any good.
Never hear from Starmer where the money will come from although he does moan about Tories and their use of the money tree.
We need to hear what Labours solution is, and how they will find the funds. |
I heard an interesting podcast (the political party) with Rachel Reeves on it, they have got some decent ideas in raising money - ban non-dom status, windfall tax on energy companies etc. I also like the idea of democratising the H of L, if they offer PR they may well secure my vote |  |

There's not even a nationwide information sharing network which seems madness to me.
So if one is admitted somewhere in the country for whatever reason there's no automatic way to access their records from their regular GP surgery/ local hospital.
One department at the WSH in Bury still only deals in paperwork; i.e. the treatment I had is only recorded by hard copy. So there are two copies, one in a cabinet in the unit, and one in a drawer in my home. |

I can access my own records online!
That's not the problem.
They (medical people) can't access each other's records across the country.
E.g. I was treated for something when in one part of the country but my own practice here had no record of it so I had to contact the other surgery up there in Midlands land and they had to fax, (yes fax) the info over.
That's pretty backward stuff isn't it. |  |

Thank you. Mum took a few steps with the physio yesterday and they are now trying to find her a nursing home bed. She will now be a part of the problem, ie: blocking a hospital bed because there are no social care beds. It's heartbreaking to see the demise of the NHS. | |

I’m glad she’s making progress. I hope you find the right place for her soon. I presume the hospital will allocate a social worker for her. They did with my mum. I managed to develop a really good relationship with her and found that helped in finding the best place. Keep notes of meetings, conversations and actions too. It’s difficult, but keep at it.
I agree, it’s heartbreaking to see the demise of the NHS. Doubly awful that the problems are not new. They’ve just been getting progressively worse over the last 12 years and there’s been no serious will to do anything about it.
I feel so sorry for people working in that environment. My experience was that they were nearly all amazing people (you don’t work in care etc for the money) doing their best in a structure not fit for purpose.

The graph on the following link (comparing the real increase in NHS spending under various governments) shows where the damage was done. In particular, the real terms increase of 0.84% under the coalition government was way below the 3.6% average since the war. And this at the time of a rapidly growing, and an ever-ageing, population, and following a nearly 6% increase under the previous Labour government.

Yes, it needs overhauling. Everyone knows that. It’s been that way for years. What has this government done about it in 12 years? Nothing. Why? Because it’s not interested.
