Just checked my future SKY bill 14:14 - Dec 8 with 2720 viewsgtsb1966

My 12 month contract is up in March. Sky TV with Netflix and sports ( no sky movies), 1 multiroom and broadband now £83 a month with my discounts for first signing up but come March it's £134 a month. That ain't happening.

Assuming they've not changed since I was last with them, surely you can call them up, tell them that, and continue paying what you've previously been paying?

Otherwise, give them your notice to quit and wait for them to come crawling back with an improved offer.

Exactly what i intend to do. Im assuming in a cost of living crisis they will be desperate to keep everyone they can.

I used to have all the BT stuff but then just dropped to broadband.

I get Bt sport through my EE Phone (2 streams so share with someone else) and get Sky via Nowtv (3 streams and share with someone).

I realise all those "extra" channels BT gave me, I never watched.

Definitely be able to get a decent broadband deal with someone else.

It might also be worth looking to see if you can get a better deal by splitting your package and getting bits and pieces from different sources.

I currently get Sky Sports through Now TV for £20 a month, which sounds as if it could be a pretty big saving on what Sky want you to pay for it?

They'll cut you a deal for sure.

My contract with them expired last month. I was paying around £95 a month for various things such as Sky Sports, Cinema, broadband, etc.

I told them i didnt want to renew and was going to look at going with Virgin Media as they offer superior broadband speeds yada yada... They cut me a deal, upgraded me to Sky Q ultra HD, cheap netflix subscription and I will now be paying about £55 a month.

Just ring them up to cancel.

I was with Virgin paying £78pm in my original deal (inc 500mb internet speed) before it went up to £142pm. Phoned them up to cancel and I'm now paying £76pm with 1gb internet speed and Netflix chucked in on top. I'm still baffled how that one worked out.

Just use a friends Sky Go/BT Sports account, much cheaper!

Did my renewal recently. First offer was poor so said I was cancelling due to the rise in cost of living. Got through to the cancellation team and they matched the offer we had. Also did my parent's renewal and they somehow ended up paying £5 per month less and got a free Sky Q upgrade.

I have:

HD Signature TV
HD Sports

Superfast broadband

Pay as you go calls (never used)

£68.50 a month.

Played a blinder on live chat. Took about 2 hours but was worth it. In the end the advisor used their own 'personal discount codes' (I know this is just marketing speak) to give me that deal.

Also pay £36.50 a month for BT. They will be lowering that to £20 in January or i'm done with them.

Truly impaired.

Mentioned this to a mate a few weeks back. He was paying some absurd price and would not believe mine came in under £20 a month

£16.99 broadband - 35mb per month - Phone (unlimited calls/texts) £2.99 a month

Sat in the pub with his mate who chipped in that my mate was rather like the numpty who was paying a tenner for a pint, because it included some peanuts, an ashtray and was served in a cut glass beaker - which were worth together, £10.

Sure, I have to spend 30 secs or so to access the football via streams which I calculate takes up around 8 mins a month, but the eye watering figures above are shocking

No wonder the energy companies have cranked up their prices when they see what some folk will pay

Bundled subscriptions are a massive scam

My parents had been Sky customers for 20 odd years. They never negotiated and after annual increases it reached the point of paying £130 odd a month after movies and sports etc - crazy amounts.

When they tried to reduce the package Sky tried to charge a change fee of >£50! Ridiculous after years of spending >£1k a year. They simply said ok, cancel the entire package on the spot. Sure enough they came back with tail between the legs to say how 'they could happily do a one off favour and waive the fees etc' ... it's a load of bullsh*t.

The fragmentation of sports has been terrible for Sky.

I know i can get hold of a fully loaded firestick with vpn and watch for nothing. I know many who have them. I'm surprised sky haven't found a way to get around this.....yet.

It's much the same with vehicle insurance

Sort it out a few weeks before, cheaper. Insurers know that with a day or so to go you have little option.

Much as with excess. I had not taken much notice till I read that you can cut it down. Not much to pay heed to, until you had a claim.

Checked past policies and found I was carrying £350/400 excess.

May 2021 jiggled about with the quotes and got it down to 0, May 2021 I was stuck with a £100 compulsory excess but no voluntary.

Amounts like these are worth it, rather than 2p off a litre of petrol or silly Supermarket loyalty cards.

Companies work on inertia and ignorance (not being aware, that is). They are not evil. You are dumb. They have a remit to maximise their profit, which is much what you do when working - look for better pay/perks etc.

Maybe the current problems over inflation, increased costs etc will push folk to look at where they spend, and whether they could get the same elsewhere, only cheaper.

My main gripe with regards to multi channels showing football is that no one should consider this as competition. Competition is where one supermarket sells a tin of beans for £1 and another sells the same make of beans for 95p. With football, if you follow a particular club you will need to have more than one provider to watch your team throughout a season. That's not competition, it is selling to the highest bidder for blocks of matches or the various competitions they take part in. Originally it was only Sky and what annoys me is their price continually increase despite reduced matches being shown. That's partly why I don't pay for any tv sport. I'd rather pop down the pub and have a couple of beers and watch the games I want to watch.
