Think that McKenna just had a slight dig at the crowd 16:39 - Dec 10 with 9139 viewsnodge_blue

The players need support. Of course, there’s tension when you’ve dropped points late on in your last game,

Think he's right. We as a 25k crowd just go quiet at times. It's good to create an atmosphere away but we need to up it at home to help get this campaign over the line.

Bit disappointing to read some of the comments on this thread. In general our support is decent both by numbers and vocally. Some grounds really are silent all game and whilst we'll never be a cauldron of noise sometimes we do generate a decent atmosphere has been commented on by visiting managers in the past.

It was an early kick off today, almost no one would have had a drink pre-match especially with England playing in the evening. It shouldn't, but that makes a huge difference.

I don't think I've ever been to an early kick off anywhere with atmosphere.

One of the worst was a lunchtime Boxing Day game at Arsenal (when they had that hoarding instead of the North Bank). We were terrible and defended for 90 mins without getting out of our half once. They toiled away. You could have heard a pin drop the whole game. So quiet. Add in an Arsenal bloke moaning next to me (I was in one of the main stands), tight shin scraping seats and awful cold, I couldn’t wait for it to end.

By contrast I was at the xmas time lunchtime Spurs game at PR. There was the remains of snow around the pitch and it was cold as hell. However, we thrashed them 3-0 and the atmos was great.

However, by and large, lunchtime games don’t cut it. Even the Norwich 2015 game felt odd at that time of day.

Oh, and I love that, 'we won the league in 62' song.

Rotterdam is my current favourite but EE must be sung more imo

The thing is, when was the last time we kicked off against Norwich at or after 3pm? From memory, every time we’ve faced them (at Portman Road, at least) has been a lunchtime kick off.

That’s very true. Don’t like it though. It never used to be like that and only presume it is to reduce alcohol intake.

Night games are ok. I particularly enjoyed the first PL season game at their place in Dec (2-0) and the 3-1 win at the end of the season!

Think this is the problem.

Chants in the years gone by weren't 'bangers'. They were just chants.

I remember big fat Joe's blue white army.. started by the North. Went on for 5 minutes. Within 10 the whole ground were clapping and It was brilliant. Same under burley.

Even on I follow now.. I hear one song. Taken over by another. Taken over by another in quick succession.

We sang Blue & White Army for the first 10 minutes yesterday.

Also sang McKenna’s B&WA for 5+ minutes in the second half.

Neither of them caught on amongst the rest of the stand.

Night games - you just reminded me of the horror of Lambert’s first East Anglian Derby game in charge of us. An evening game on the Thursday before Good Friday, if I remember correctly, and a disaster to boot.

I’m still trying to forget the 5-1 hammering when he was in charge of them. I didn’t think I was going to make the game (work), but did and even managed a couple in the Black Horse before ankling to the game. All worked out nicely as I met my dad outside the ground. What could go wrong? Oh.

There’s not been many worse night games than that humiliation.

Atmosphere is a funny thing, BA do a great job but we have to realise the majority of most grounds are quiet most of the time. The rebuild hasn't helped and all seater stadia have the problem that people can't congregate together. I think it would help to have a BA spillover area (probably in the North upper) as people without season tickets can't get into the lower North so where do you go if you want to help with the atmosphere?

I think the stand with the best acoustics for making noise is the oldest, as heard when there's a good away attendance. Perhaps anyone that wants to join in with that end of the SBRL could try to get seats there.

EEJB always comes to an abrupt halt just as it gets going as not enough people have bothered to learn the second verse.

I'm a long way from Ipswich. Given a choice of an away game or home game, I mostly choose to go away. The support is far better. I want to get over for the Plymouth game, but doubt I'll get a ticket in North and if it involves sitting down all game next to muttering, muted "fans" I'll probably not bother. Leeds, most don't like them with good reason, but I went a few years back and recall all of their stands singing and being vocal, not just the hard core behind the goals. If there is the will, it can be done at home.

Ipswich isn’t exactly known for its incredibly vocal fans….

Doesn’t help that the chants are total dross. That we won the league in 62 thing with the woah woah woah for the next 5 mins is shocking.

FFS you're a miserable so and so.

It's a great chant that BA have put great vocals to representing our history and success. Most supporters now know the words and it generates atmosphere with majority of NS stand singing it. If anyone can't get behind that song then they're probably off better watching from home.

"reduce alcohol intake"

That's just lack of commitment.

Just get up an hour earlier and start then.

So you have fans telling people off for watching at home and not going.

You've now got fans telling people off for going but not signing.

Apologies, that's right - Lambert was in charge of them and we had Jewell at that point.

The disaster of Paul's are blending into one now.

Stop-start first half, crap kick-off time, glaring sun, freezing cold.

All contributed to a poor first half atmosphere.

Picked up in the second half, but for BA to claim it’s only ever then that make any effort isn’t entirely fair. The group around us in block 5 have a good go most of the time (two-thirds of the way back, left of the goal as you look at the pitch).

I used to sit in that general area and it was precisely my experience there that compelled me to try and form an organised ultra group. Yes, songs do start up in section 5, but sporadically, and very rarely maintained for any more than a few seconds...

I guess we're frustrated because BA is progressing in so many ways, but after 3 years of utter dross on the pitch we've finally got a team worth singing for - and it's still such a slog. We had 30 odd folk move into the section at the beginning of the season who wanted to sing at games, but it's still just a hard core of BA members who are at it all game every game...

Too cold, too hot, early kick offs, late kick offs, too many new songs, not enough new songs...it's all excuses at the end of the day. A true revolution starts within the individual. People need to take personal responsibility...

Someone said in another reply not to foster an us-and-them mentality and they're completely right; there are some really passionate supporters in the support base who want to create that buzz that - ultimately - makes football what it is. We've taken it as far as we can though and it's now going to need the club to start taking an active role in 'engineering' a singing section (unless we can get a proper terrace in, but that's a discussion for another thread). They've said they're going to start canvassing the wider fanbase about it. I guess we'll see how serious they - and indeed all ITFC supporters - really are about solving this problem...

Also doesn’t help that BA refuse to join in with any chants they don’t start.

Absolute b0ll0cks churned out by a few trolls on Twitter. Watch me down the front: on the rare occasions something starts up from elsewhere I immediately join in, even stopping what we're singing if it seems like that chant is getting more traction...

I disagree - it's a superb chant - but hey, it's your opinion. But it's nonetheless missing the point: no-one's going to like every chant, but ANY chant will sound great if several thousand people are belting it out. We aren't exactly massive fans of that 'WE'VE GOT SUPER KIERAN MCKENNA' Bad Moon Rising chant (arbitrary choice of player, missing a verse, if you must know) but everyone else loves it, so we belt it out as much as possible...
