I feel a bit under the weather, and a little bit flat and anxious in the run up to Christmas, despite looking forward to it. Quite a nice day where I am though, so will probably take a good, long walk later. Eager for kick off on Saturday, although Wycombe worry me.
Have been flicking through last night's and this morning's threads and have found them to be quite tetchy with a lot of people getting their claws out for no real reason. So I ask, how are you today? What's good? What's bad? What are you going to do about it?
P.S. no bickering on this thread please and thank you.
Bloody hell. Miss Slave will be gutted! Looked at a place in Charsfield today 225k for a quick sale with a third of an acre or so. Shame about the main road through the middle! Got some gardening work off the Estate Agent though.
Yeah, sorry. Garden on the new house is massive though, and I've agreed to buy the current owners' ride on mower. I've arrived in life!
I'm sure you'll find something next year, the market is definitely slowing a bit and prices will drop back a bit I think.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
Bit sluggish this morning. Binned off work and took the hound out for a slow, but lovely long walk across Wortham Ling. Met a few other dog walkers who exchanged pleasantries with. Opened birthday present from the lad on my return. Blackout shirt. Absolutely made up with that. Perusing on here in front of the wood burning stove and in fine fettle now. Mrs SSB back home tommorow afternoon after another gruelling week away so will be celebrating turning 62 at the weekend. Glass or two of a cheeky Rioja this evening and will enjoy an episode of The Traitors.
I got married a few weeks ago, and that was pretty brilliant. Did a nice "mini-moon" to the Peak District for a few days, was nice to get away as weddings are bloody exhausting when it's your own.
This past weekend we hosted a Christmas meal for the vast majority of our friends, so cooking a meal for 13. Now honestly that's not really a problem by itself, I enjoy cooking and I honestly look forward to this meal more than actual Christmas Day event.
This year though Lady Luck decided she hated us. We've got a range cooker and we almost never use the second oven. A few minutes after we turned it on, the breakers blew for the whole of downstairs which was very odd. Flicked them back on to notice the oven wasn't coming back on and neither was the fridge. We tried replacing the fuse(s) which had blown but it has obviously done even more damage. Thankfully had a few people here who are better at DIY than myself to confirm I wasn't just being an idiot.
Called the emergency electrician and he somewhat explained (and I'm paraphrasing here) that the oven had not only managed to blow the fuse but also break its switch, not sure how. He fixed that problem, getting us up and running with the oven but it seems our fridge freezer had been collateral damage and was gone. It was turning into an expensive day.
Ordered a new fridge to come today (Thursday), along with fitting.
Get on with cooking and trying to work out how we're going to do the meal with one oven (we did manage!) when we started on the first of many rounds of washing up.
No hot water.
Boiler electrics were fooked.
Realised there was even more damage than first thought. We hadn't checked the cooker hood and that wasn't working, and one floor above it was the boiler
Tried to get hold of the electrician and he wouldn't answer. Called back the company that sent him to us and they said he would call us back. He didn't.
(Technically he did but not until the next day).
It was decided we would get yet another emergency electrician to fix whatever else had gone wrong.
He turned up just as we were serving and quite a few drinks in. Explained the issues and a couple of hours later he explained one of the MCBs on the board was broken. I'm sure this will mean something to people who know how these things work, but I do know MCBs are the components of the fuse box with the switches on. How or why it was broken I don't know.
Sent him off with some left overs for him and his wife as we had plenty.
A few days pass.
Get a text message asking to book my fitting slot. First available date is late December despite me putting down the 15th.
A few tense calls later and it turns out they'd basically screwed up so got a refund on the fitting, so currently I've got an integrated fridge freezer sat in my kitchen on some polystyrene. We've got a guy coming round on Monday to fit it. I'm sure something will go wrong.
In the meantime we'll plug it in and use it because going outside to our makeshift fridge known as "outside" isn't barrels of fun.
So yeah, mixed bag really.
Oh and forgot to mention, my wife graduated with a Masters in Clinical Psychology yesterday, that's pretty good as well.

Happy Birthday Capability. I shall have to open a bottle too now. To your good health. Love Carol xx

Hark at you Dubbers, congratulations! You'll have veg coming out of your ears. BTW do you know if Leftfield are any good live nowadays as tickets for Norwich go on sale in the morning.
Ps...Miss Slave says is the place you were looking at back on the market....she's ruthless!!

Never seen Leftfield live, but I think its basically matey with a laptop and some flashy light shows. Will be a full on immersive experience though. Leftism was the album that got me into dance music! I really like that new one with matey from Fontaines DC too.
The Otley house was a bit sad really, the owner got diagnosed with serious illness and so they had the change their moving plans so that he can have treatment.

Great that you are feeling better again today and the future is looking brighter. Sorry that you had to go through all of that crap to get here, but you pushed on and can now look back at a trying time with your middle finger held high. Well done mate and glad you are on the up!
Cheers. Middle finger definitely being exercised right now!
Anyone who knows me will know that I'm perpetually positive and pretty bombproof in terms of my mental health, but the last couple of months have tested that.

OK thank you SlippyJJ, just had a quick garden bonfire, not much material but it didn't half warm & cheer me up for the 10 mins it lasted :)
One great thing we all have to look forward to - in 6 days' time, the days will start getting longer again, yay! 21st Dec is my Christmas Day, have always looked forward to it far more than the 25th ☀ï¸
Excellent, and the sound and smell of a bonfire would be lovely about now :)
Great shout on the shortest day, I love the transition from winter to spring that is getting closer by the day!

That was a white knuckle ride! First off, congratulations on the wedding and wishing you both the best of luck from here on out. What an achievement from your wife too.
Good that you can see those positives given it has all gone a bit Frank Spencer in your kitchen, blimey. Kind of seems like things are working themselves out so hopefully the next episode is a bit more dull and you can have a thoroughly mundane rest of the year!
Almost finished last nights Bulgarian red, the Rioja is breathing! Did Mrs SSB's bladder hold out btw? Firewood all stacked?
Lovely. Just, but in her words was a nine and three quarters out of ten on her arrival. Firewood all stacked (Swiss style) and looks a thing of beauty.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

In myself, all good. I’ve met up with friends over the last few weeks, sorted a few things out, life tootles on. I’m very lucky not to have the worries many people have.
The downside is that I’ll be sorting my dad out this weekend till Tuesday and that’ll be hard. He’s very elderly and sadly time has caught up with him physically and mentally. It’s the memory issues/dementia that’s the hardest part. We’ve done so much over the years, so I hang on to those memories.
In terms of actions, it’s a similar approach to dealing with my late mother. Week at a time, deal with problems that arise, look for best solutions.
Mrs Cs brother has had to go into hospital with a serious problem today too and time will tell on that. A big worry, particularly for Mrs C.
So, bit of a mixed bag. My health is good as far as I know and with that you can deal with or should I say do your best with most things.

Congrats on your wedding. And onyour wife’s Masters - a brilliant achievement.
As for the crucial failure, catastrophic just about covers it and I hope the problems are resolved soon.
Beyond changing a plug, electrics is something I’ve never been able to understand so an MCB is to me either a digger or 60s car.

Slipped over on the ice yesterday while walking the dog - fell flat on my back, knocked myself out for a few seconds, woke up to find the dog licking my face. Got home ok, and as concussion protocol dictates had some mulled wine, then realised I've got some very bruised ribs which hurt when I laugh or cough!
Then find out that Youngest Oozami has somehow poured water down the hob switches and blown the fuses (not as bad at DtM's situation though!) So today will be spent taking out the oven and hob and getting a hair dryer on the switches! But apart from that things aren't too bad...
