Harry has backed himself into the corner. For everyone's sake, I hope that this pair just now stay quiet and get on with their lives and we don't have to hear from them again
No one has to read articles about them, no one has to watch their documentary and no one has to comment on their lives. People choose to do all of those things - some choose to say they have sympathy for them and some choose to express disdain towards them.

I fully understand. It’s almost like it’s impossible not to buy that paper carrying huge headlines of them, or to skip stories relating to them. And it’s an impossibility not to switch off the telly when they are on.
And it’s impossible not to comment on them on social media.

Not really, there are two different definitions of “Free Speech”
In simple terms people can exercise their reason in public and/or speak their minds. It has always been the case that in the latter definition, people are not free from consequence.
No Platforming and throwing things at people that speak their minds, for people whose minds are filled with hateful stuff, has been happening since the Ancient Greeks.
I bet Socrates wishes Milkshakes were invented sooner.
There will be 100’s if not 1000’s of definitions of free speech.
I’m working to this one as it is logical and makes sense and is without bias:
“Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction.”
No milkshakes necessary here.

Is one person's whinge fest another person's alternative side of a story? The tone of your comments suggests you have little tolerance towards them, regardless of anything they might have to say. I'm intrigued why you are so strong in your views? Personally, I dipped in and out of it, without too much interest, but I do feel they have had a rough ride from certain elements of the press and some of the public. I was also quite intrigued at your your final comment. Why should they or anyone else stop? It's not yours or my decision when people should express themselves. Surely our decision is only whether to listen or not?
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

It is pretty hard to avoid in fairness
I don’t find it particularly difficult. I’m aware there’s a lot of chatter (an inexplicable amount, as I mentioned earlier in the thread), but it’s very easy to ignore it.

Funny how 3 months ago we were all told as a nation to shut up and play fairytales RE: Royalty being rammed down one’s throat. Now it seems the Gammon’s are sick to death of airing them.

Every time I put on Netflix it is recommended with a preview so hopefully that part of it stops soon.
If I want to watch some fiction on there about the royal family I’ll stick to The Crown as it’s much better produced
Is Jeremy Clarkson misogynistic, racist or plain nasty? on 07:38 - Dec 21 by MattinLondon
And you can rest in the knowledge that The Crown is simply telly drama that you can switch off when you choose to.
No one wants to upset themselves thinking that in real life the royal family are a bunch of cold hearted ruthless arseholes.
That even comes across in The Crown in fairness; but everyone knows that the Palaces have to compete against each other and there is a clear hierarchy. Well everyone except Meghan it seems.
The first episode of the recent series is Charles trying to plot to find a way to become King earlier, and clearly no real relationship between him and Phillip. It may dress things up but it doesn't sugarcoat that it is every person for themselves and they have teams of people doing their bidding.

Apologies Joe if my earlier post this morning came across as a tad unnecessary- I still maintain the sentiment but got personal with the individuals rather than with the institution itself.

That is a poor definition.
And it doesn’t apply in most countries.
For instance, you can say something like, in my opinion all people of a certain ethnicity are stupid and should be treated differently and hounded out of the country and the Celts are a superior people.
On this website if I made plain I was of the opinion you were a complete moron because of a characteristic about you, rather than say I reasoned why a comment made by you was moronic, then the former would be against the T&Cs.
The ability to have a reasoned discussion and also to speak truth to power, is not the same as voicing hatred at people. Voicing hate at people is not deserving of special protection.

That’s why i don’t think there is such a thing as free speech and why I think free speech in its purist sense comes with great responsibility.
You have to contort the logical definition so much that you are not really defining free speech in its purist sense.

I don't want it forced down my throat by an algorithm you've literally told you want to watch things like The Crown!?*
It really does feel like whether something is rammed down one's throat or not is decided by fundamental political bias and their own discomforts within their belief system.
If I remember rightly Joe, you are someone who told me a few years ago veganism was being rammed down your throat. You even went as far to claim someone in town forced your toddler child to look at a photo of a dead cow by ramming it in their face (which we dug into and realised was very a creative and hypothetical strawman vs what ACTUALLY happened).
*I'm no fan of the whole reality show drama that is royalty beyond cultural/political impact within history (and for that reason I can sympathise somewhat my original statement on the post is a bit unfair. I have successfully managed to avoid this stuff for years, yet both The Crown and The H&M doc is advertised to me on Netflix. I just skip past it, like I do most things that really don't matter in the scheme of things.
The context that matters however and one that is ignored at the fundamental is this... Why do we still have them, let alone one villanises a PoC for challenging a factually broken and dated hierarchy system with the blood of millions on it's hands, whilst sweeping the actions of a child sex predator under the rug? This statement is regardless of if you like Megan, loathe her or don't give a sh1t like me.
And that's what I think people don't like. Therefore rammed down throat. But 3 months ago it was SHUT UP AND GIVE THEM ALL THE MEDIA ATTENTION BECAUSE RESPECT or something. Similar to the respect we gave Clap for Carers vs Nurse pay - We are a nation of empty gestures and tradition to hide the ugly truth of what British Nationalism actually celebrates and what it ignores.

I've watched about 50 programmes since the last series of The Crown, and every time I go on to Netflix on either mine or my other halves accounts, or at my parents it is the number 1 advert, the recommended show, etc etc and has been since it came out - obviously Netflix have spent a lot of money on it but they are ramming it down consumers throats there. It seems unavoidable on there at the moment.
I don't think I ever said veganism has been forced down my throat, I'm sure I suggested that vegans try to do that to you but it is much more avoidable - I've watched plenty of tings about it on streaming services but never get anything about it generally.
Re the thing about my son in town, I don't know what was the creative and hypothetical strawman we agreed on, but I don't think people in masks in town should be showing those sort of pictures to children of such a young age which they were doing. It's nasty to do so and is what ACTUALLY happened.
I don't really want to get into a Harry and Meghan debate, as I find them annoying generally, but I'll stick by original post that they have a life that is more privileged that 99.9999% of the world and think it is unfair that 0.0001% are more priviliged than them. It's like James Dyson moaning that Jeff Bezos is richer than him.
I read a few chapters of Finding Freedom, which was basically Meghan and Harry's book about with Omid Scobie and it is just finding they are being slighted in every possible way you could imagine so it was always going to go further this way......but if you were sad enough to read it you'd see that point......everything was taken as a personal slight so there was nothing the RF could do with them....but they all played their games around it but there was no way it could work

I believe your story went from "they rammed a photo of a bloody dead animal in my child's face and forced them to look" to "Well what if a child happens to look at the screen". Alas back then cognitive dissonance was all the rage on animal rights and more were willing to happy clap such silliness.
As I said in my previous post, the aspect people continue to ignore (and one you have certainly in this response) is the fundamental WHY? behind the stories and the drama. In that regard the energy many show towards Megan comes across no different to when grown men (often less informed on the topic of climate change) abuse Greta Thunberg for having an opinion whilst living in a society.
The Royal family is an institutionally racist concept and it doesn't matter how WOKE they go - to truly see some level of class and race justice the whole thing needs abolishing. Do people think Britain built a colonial empire by being nice and not doing a bit of genocide here and there?!

I can't be bothered to go through the differences between 'ramming it in his face' and showing it to him from a meter or so away as it just misses the point of whether things should be done like that to young children.
The 'WHY?' behind the stories is that they've come in and attempted to rock the boat, not play by the rules of engagement (whether you agree with them or not) from a position of weakness as the 'spare'. If they had William on side and were able to harness his power they may have had a chance, but when going against the current queen, the future king and the one after that when the industry is established was a fools path.
It's not so much a family as warring households jockeying for position, if the weakest of those in the game wants to make a run at it - in the words of Omar Little.......If you come at the King, you best not miss.
William and Charles are relevant, Harry and Meghan have to try and keep themselves relevant.....they've elected to try and be relevant in America than do what they need to do to stay relevant in the UK. I'd be interested to know what the average Royal watcher in America thinks of them
