I can see us going in for him in January. Kept an eye on him a lot this season and he is exactly the kind of option we could do with up top, the final piece of the jigsaw imo.

If Stockton was the player to get us then go get him.

I Don't care what we do. Just get the players in that will get us promoted.
If that's spending 3 mill on Taylor. 2 on whittaker etc. Do it.
If its on jch go for it.

One problem. It ain't your money.

Personally think the number 9 will be a loan (E. Ferguson). Luongo will end up signing a short term contract ans cover. Can’t see us disrupting Morsy/Evans and we will also sign a no 10. Collins be my choice.

That's the January transfer window conundrum isn't it? We don't want to sign someone on a 2-3 year deal who won't cut it in the Championship

Sometimes those deals need to happen. Bournemouth got Kieffer Moore last January to be that different option. I know he's ended up playing in the Premier League this year but I think that's just down to circumstance and their lack of business in the summer; I think the plan was to use him to get them over the line then loan him out again to a big Championship side.

Jon Parkin said similar in his podcast about when he signed for Cardiff in January 2011. They didn't end up getting promoted that year but they were top of the league with Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra, Aaron Ramsey and JET in the team. Parkin said he knew he wasn't going to get a game in the Premier League and only joined for the 6 months with the intention of doubling his money if they went up and getting a loan move back up north to a Barnsley or Huddersfield.

A bit like Daryl Murphy at Newcastle

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Agree, plays across the front 3 mobile what's not to like,
Be disappointed if we weren't after him,

“I Don't care what we do. Just get the players in that will get us promoted.”

This is likely to be completely not what Three Lions, MA and KMcK will be doing. They will be thoughtful in considering many players, those that fit the profiles of players and have the attributes necessary to play in the ways the coaching team want.

Football isn’t a game of certainty. X + y does not = certainty at L1 level.

I’m comfortable in the knowledge itfc is being run by professionals that are not in panic mode, they are carefully building a football team that can progress out of L1 and beyond.Iif players needed to join this journey are not available in Jan at appropriate fees, if the worst happens in May and we have to reshape the squad a bit the I am sure we would be stronger for it.

The questions will be:

Can KM improve him?
Can he play in the Championship?

It's the latter that is the real question mark. KM improving him is a given.

Let’s get there first and then worry about the points you made

This is where you come unstuck a little.

You are genuinely suggesting spending £1.5-£2.5m of firefighters pension money on a player only to ship them out to loan next season when they've served their purpose.

Doesn't exactly seem the recipe for a happy camp does it? Nor does it seem a particularly good way to get a return on investment. If we are bringing in players this January it has to be players who we believe are good enough to play in the higher reaches of the Championship, otherwise we might as well just go and get Cole Stockton.

Should think the fire fighters would be happy to see us promoted..Any player we sign would have the opportunity to prove themselves good enough to stay on board should we get promoted..They would also have a sale value, should they not prove themselves.Which would claw back some of the fee..If it ended up costing an extra 1 or 2 mill to get promoted.Surely it's worth it?
I'm with Frimmers here. This window is about "spending" money to get out this division. And less about planning any further. I'd wager that those firefighters would be less happy to see us still in Lg1, for the sake of an extra 1 or 2 mill. I'm not saying Aaron Collins is that player.Just saying, that, imo, anyone we sign now, should be done to help us over the line this season, primarily. And not for what they may or may not be worth, in an imaginary future.
