Swans-Ipswich links re. Whittaker deal 19:23 - Jan 3 with 14412 views | portmanking | It's not just the Downes money that makes me think the Whittaker deal is a goer. Jordan Gardner is very close with Brett Johnson and Detmer and he's also a shareholder in the Swans I believe. It could just be that the ownership group have cultivated a deal?
Swans-Ipswich links re. Whittaker deal on 19:26 - Jan 3 with 8774 views | SitfcB | Saw a tweet yesterday saying Whittaker has the same agent as Lee Evans and George Edmundson as well, so would assume Ashton know him, even before his time here.

Would he want a sizable wage and status increase to play in front of 28,000 every other week? Reckon he'd bite* *Supposing certain Championship sides don't come in for him. [Post edited 3 Jan 2023 19:35]

Plymouth fans seem to think Whittaker is on 5k a week at Swansea, which would likely be matched and then some. Pigott's almost on double that which boggles the mind.

Judging by his Instagram, I’d say no. I can’t imagine Ashton / the club forking out on a multi-million pound signing when they don’t particularly want to be here. [Post edited 3 Jan 2023 19:36]

Why would he not want to come here? Big club, fantastic support, exciting manager and coaching for young players, overall a great project with a real feeling of going somewhere. Footballers are not the sentimental types most fans would like to believe, so I doubt loyalty to Plymouth would give him too many sleepless nights. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Doubt he would go out of his way to say he would be supporting Plymouth for promotion for rest of season if there is any possibility of coming to Ipswich

Yeah but he’s put a picture of him scoring against us in his leaving pics, so that’s got to be a hint he’s signing within the week!

He’s unlikely to be going back to Plymouth so he probably needs to get over that quite quickly. Swansea will sell to the highest bidder and that won’t be them unless somebody suddenly gives them a couple of million quid.

I'm not debating that and I'm not saying that isn't appealing. But he seems to be reluctant to have left Plymouth and isn't there Championship interest and even PL interest? I'd be wary of us getting him if he is anything less than 100% on board. That said, Ashton seems great at selling the project to players, so who knows? Still, I'd be surprised if he came here.

I think you're reading far too much into this. Not saying that he's coming to us, but should we ask about him and he turns it down, it probably won't solely be out of any loyalty to Plymouth Argyle. Most footballers are ambitious and professional, and I think it's obvious which out of us and Plymouth have the higher ceiling when looking forward over the next few years. Plymouth don't have the fan base or resources to compete at the Championship level, whereas we will.

Swans-Ipswich links re. Whittaker deal on 19:51 - Jan 3 with 7787 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Which League 1 teams do you think stand a realistic chance of making the Premier League in the next 3 seasons? It has to be Sheff Weds, Derby and us. Not sure what order. For Plymouth or anyone else to get to the Prem must be a very long shot. The 3 big teams are getting 25,000 a week in League 1, have history and bigger budgets. I'm not saying ITFC will make or stay in the Prem, nor that it would be impossible for Plymouth (aka Brentford) but we are at least one of three with a realistic shot at it. MW would do well to think about that.

The bottom line is that if they can't afford to buy Whittaker now then they probably won't be in a financial position to compete seriously for promotion should they be promoted this season. I predict they'd be another Rotherham, caught between being too good for League One but not good enough for the Championship.

Or pissing off his employers so much they'll want to move him on. He might want to consider who is paying his wages right now before getting too vocal.
