It's not just the Downes money that makes me think the Whittaker deal is a goer. Jordan Gardner is very close with Brett Johnson and Detmer and he's also a shareholder in the Swans I believe. It could just be that the ownership group have cultivated a deal?

Judging by his Instagram, I’d say no. I can’t imagine Ashton / the club forking out on a multi-million pound signing when they don’t particularly want to be here.

But he does feature Ipswich in said post….

Pretty non-committal piece isn't it.
"It remains to be seen what sort of role the forward will play upon his return to SA1. It's possible he may yet be sold before the window closes.
However, he will be given the chance to impress when he returns to Fairwood."
Most possibilities there fairly well covered.
Unless I’m reading it wrong, but if he plays a league game for Swansea, he can’t then play for any other team in the EFL, whether he moves on loan or permanent. [Except Plymouth].
I’d hazard a guess that Swansea will have a look at him over the next few weeks and then send him back to Plymouth until the end of the season.

FFS He is NOT coming here Dannar said. Dannar said he loves Plymouth far too much.
I went to Wicks in Plymouth earlier and they said a man in a green shirt has bought up every pair of bolt cutters in Devon and Cornwall. Strange i thought until I drove past Home Park and noticed a young footballer has chained himself to the gate.
And this was blaring out over the tannoy for some reason:

That is correct re playing for Swans, same situation as when Kieffer Moore was recalled from Rotherham before we sold him to Barnsley. There are other clubs interested in him, so it may well come down to who is able to offer Swansea what they want for him.

Unless him and Martin make up, I can’t see that happening. That’s the reason why he was loaned out last summer.
Indeed, he's not been recalled to play at Swansea. Martin's press conference made it clear it's not him recalling him but the owners. He'll almost certainly be sold somewhere, assuming someone offers the right money. There are Championship clubs interested as well as us, although money isn't exactly flowing freely in the Championship at present.

I suspect the longer the situation rumbles on, the more likely event he’ll end up back at Plymouth sometime during the last week of the transfer window.

Which League 1 teams do you think stand a realistic chance of making the Premier League in the next 3 seasons? It has to be Sheff Weds, Derby and us. Not sure what order. For Plymouth or anyone else to get to the Prem must be a very long shot. The 3 big teams are getting 25,000 a week in League 1, have history and bigger budgets. I'm not saying ITFC will make or stay in the Prem, nor that it would be impossible for Plymouth (aka Brentford) but we are at least one of three with a realistic shot at it. MW would do well to think about that.
Sure I saw a report that a couple of lower status Premier League clubs were sniffing about him.

One to watch over the next week or so for sure!
Perhaps. As it stands at the moment, he's not coming here, but it's possible that things could move on on that front and not many clubs with cash to spend.

Not coming here because we can’t do a deal or not coming here because we don’t want to do a deal?

We still want him, but not anything happening at the moment. As things are, think he might well end up elsewhere but that could change and nothing done and dusted or near that stage with anyone.

Swansea returning him to Plymouth would be failure now at this stage wouldn't it? As Phil highlights, he hasn't been recalled at the manager's request or even with his consent really. The logical call was always to bring him back at this stage.
He's showcased his ability and readiness to improve his parent club right now, or indeed potential suitors. If he were to continue his form for Plymouth through the season it wouldn't likely attract a higher bid than could be realized in January, as admirers will have seen enough and January is a more desperate window. If Martin doesn't value him today it is very unlikely he will value him in the autumn, and all the while a valuable asset could be helped to secure targets the manager actually wants.
Paying him to play elsewhere would see Swansea's transfer window gone wrong.

He’ll cry a bit for the next few days and get it out of his system. Then he’ll meet with his agent who will tell him to grow up and pull himself together. He’ll then be told about the offer of an increase in his wage and a nice lenghty contract offer. He will sign for us early next week 😃

Sounds a bit like the Tyreece Simpson loan at Swindon being cut short when we recalled him during a successful stint in the league below…

Why would he not want to come here? Big club, fantastic support, exciting manager and coaching for young players, overall a great project with a real feeling of going somewhere. Footballers are not the sentimental types most fans would like to believe, so I doubt loyalty to Plymouth would give him too many sleepless nights.
Quite. He probably didn’t want to go to Plymouth at the time. He’s 21 and on his 4th (soon to be 5th club). He’ll go where he ends up and say he’s happy to be there. And if he does well he will be happy. If not, he’ll be moved on to somewhere else. That’s a footballer’s life.

I don’t know if the players heart would be in it.
1/2 a season and flying, made to be sold to a team lower in the same league.
Still can’t see it happening
I find it astonishing that people really believe that a player who has played about 20 games on loan to a team would love them so much as to not want to play for another club in that division.
It's a job, people seem to forget this and apply rules they wouldn't apply to someone moving from one toner distributor to another.
Not many players would jeopardise their career by deliberately playing poorly.

The other way of reading that is that he absolutely follows the party line on socials and doesn't say anything to rock the boat of the club whose shirt he is currently wearing.
Which would be big ticks in the positive column for MA and the owners.

Tough crowd.
I liked it!
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
This might be a controversial view - but Swansea, like Ipswich are on the fringe of the play-offs, only one division higher up. Perhaps they want their own player to help them get in the play offs.
