Irrespective of where Whittaker ends up, the fact he's no longer at 08:34 - Jan 4 with 2290 viewshomer_123

Plymouth bodes well for us.

Going to be an interesting window for many reasons.

They are a well run club , wouldn't overly surprise me if they got a good replacement in for him.

That maybe, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they are losing one of their main, effective, players.

They've already signed Ben Waine.

He's directly contributed to 16 goals in the league this season either through scoring it himself or getting the assist.

That's 35% of their goals where he's had a direct contribution.

I am sure they will replace him but it's a huge ask to replace that level of contribution in the January window.

Still think the most likely outcome is he gets signed by a top end champ club and then gets immediately loaned back to Plymouth for the rest of the reason.

Why would a "top end" Championship club want to buy him in January to loan him out?

Would seem like a strange allocation of resources when they would be looking to strengthen themselves for a push.

A Championship club won't be spending £1.5m on a player to loan him to a League One team.

Lots of clubs do it. Maybe even a low prem club, for 1-1.5 mill seems like a fairly risk free move for a club to take a chance on him given how well he’s performed this season.

He could still go back. If Swansea don't get an acceptable offer and dont see him as a part of the first team squad, he could well end up back at Argyle at the emd of the month.

Exactly. People bursting a blood vessel on twitter and here saying ‘ooo don’t know why we are crowing about Whittaker because we aren’t signing him’ it’s not about that, I don’t expect us to get him but him being recalled is great news by itself.

Or he gets bought by a team higher up the pyramid as a long-term investment, and they decide to loan him back to Plymouth for the remainder of the season to continue his development.

Certainly possible, although I suspect they have had firm interest if they have taken the step of recalling him..

Guess we will see.

I didn't realise before I looked quite how important he has been for them.

Sounds like he would be one of the 10's if he joined, although I'm far from sure he will.

Imagine how funny it’ll be when Plymouth win the league ahead of us, without Whittaker, and we still have jackson as our back up main striker.

I’m sticking to it that they will fall away, they’ve got to have a bad run at some point, got to.

Trouble is we won’t be there to capitalise the way it’s going, but a long way to go get, get yourself out of the doom hole boi!

Indeed SB.

A big ask to replace that kind of player.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The longer this rumbles on (whether we're interested in not) and he hasn't moved, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Plymouth on deadline day.

Jackson isn't our 'back up main striker'. He is "one of the options in attack". That's how the team works nowadays. I think it very likely we'll sign (or loan) another option this window, if only because John-Jules is out for several months more.

I also think we stand as good a chance as Plymouth (and Sheffield Wednesday*) of winning the division, even if they retained Whittaker.

* But probably not Barnsley. Their recent good run (W7 D1) was, barring Peterborough, entirely against lower half teams, including four of the current bottom five.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Every team, up and down the country (and world) has some sort of bad run across a season.

Let's hope we're in ours and coming out the other side of it with just 1 loss and a few draws, which I think we will given it's January and a chance to freshen up the side.
