Donacien still has a massive role to play. 12:54 - Jan 25 with 2094 viewscbower

Watching Clarke last night, one had to feel a bit for Janoi. After a stop, start Town career, he was magnificent last season and this season, whilst maybe not quite as good, he has been decent. However, Town have not spent £1 million + for Clarke to be a bench warmer and a right sided centre half was not really required when we have Woolfenden and Edmundson. So where does that leave JD? For me, he is the ideal defensive substitute. He covers every position more than adequately, thus, as McKenna has said, opening the bench to greater forward thinking options. A bench of JD, Luongo and Hladky would leave four spaces for attacking players such as Humphreys, Hirst / Ladapo, Harness, Jackson, Aluko, Edwards etc. This puts pressure on the likes of Woolfenden, Burgess, Edmundson, Keogh (and perhaps in future also Baggott) to be in the first 11 as a centre half would not make the bench. Remember, CB's are rarely subsituted anyway if not injured. KVY's time at Town on the other hand, looks far more in the balance as a result of Clarke's arrival. Maybe a question mark against Greg Leigh's too as JD provides left back cover?

I'm not sure how comfortable JD would be on the left side, he's very right footed

Greg Leigh and KVY haven't done much wrong really, it's just Davis has been so good

We have a couple of players now who feel a bit redundant for the timebeing in Edwards, KVY and perhaps even JD now amazingly

We are in a good place in terms of squad depth, it might be a blessing for some of these side competitions like the FA Cup

The FA Cup in particular used to highlight our lack of squad depth

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I said last week, Donacien has proved a lot of people wrong (I definitely include myself in that) and he has improved no end under McKenna, however I've always felt League 1 was/is his ceiling and if/when we went up, he'd be let go to make way for someone better .... it looks like we've just brought that forward by 6 months in signing Clarke.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I feel for Janoi, have always liked him but it's clear to see that he does have limitations. However, he does seem to be a fantastic squad player, appears to be popular, can cover several roles if required and has that attitude which means he seems to be prepared to get his head down and give 100% when asked, even if it's not every week.

I think he'll be here a while yet, maybe not in the first 11 as much, but what a great bench option.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Love JD but Clarke does seem a bit step up.

JD has served us well and I really hope he's here for at least the rest of the season. I want him to get a winners medal.

Truly impaired.

I’m also a fan of JD but it’s clear he’s not hit the heights of the form he was in at the tail end of last season. He was Mr Consistent and linked up so well with Burns.

It’s clear though the Clark is a significant upgrade and looks like he’s probably too good for this division (I hate saying that’s as it’s been said about many of our players yet here we are..).

I am pretty sure he has played left side before either for Accrington Stanley or when on loan 2 seasons ago. If I'm wrong the I'll stand corrected. However, it would only be as a substitute or to cover in an emergency.

Clarke looked great last night but I think JD would have looked great too with that position not really being pressed during the game. Looking forward to seeing how he performs in tight games, he's definitely quality.

JD still has a big roll to play, this season, imo... Clarke is clearly first choice, but may need dipping out for a game here and there. Or "saved" for a perceived, harder game, of which there are quite a few to come during our run in... Think JD will benefit from some rest bite and will be much fresher when he does make an appearance... There'll be no moans or groans from me if JD is on the team sheet. He's been excellent during KM's tenure. And I'm sure we'll see him back to his best , if and when, a refreshed JD, does appear..
Whatever happens next season? Well, that will be seen to in the Summer.. But for now, it's really pleasing to have both Clarke and JD for that hybrid attacking CB role, imo.

I was also impressed with Clarke especially going forward but he is yet to be tested in defence hopefully he will be good plus he is young and I'm sure KMc will get best out of him, and JD has never let us down.

Bit early to say that Clarke is "clearly" better, when he had a decent game in a 4-0 drubbing where we had to do next to no defending.

I never said he was better, just that I doubt 1 million has been spent to watch Clarke sit on the bench. I was, indeed, complimentary to JD in many ways.

Of course Clarke is much better than Donacien, totally different gear

KVY is a far better footballer than Donacien and Jackson in my opinion and he is the one I feel sorry for as he's done nothing wrong and had to get over a really bad injury. The Squad looks too big again and needs to lose at least two players becuase too many not even making the bench even will lead to an unhappy squad.

I’m sure JD played left back V Brentford at Home during Hursts short tenure. I recall feeling sorry for him as he had an absolute mare and clearly wasn’t comfortable there. Think we got away with a 1-1 draw having been battered.

He was put there at Swansea for a bit then hauled off.
