for some time now. We often speak of "must win" games for the team, but I genuinely believe that Saturday is a "must win" for McKenna, anything less than 3 points against FGR and the powers that be start drawing up a list of managerial candidates (if they haven't already). It's the diligent and prudent thing to do, McKenna has had probably as much time and definitely more money at his disposal than previous managers, but has produced a run of results worse than those before him, runs that saw those managers sacked. Our owners are investing a lot of money on and off the pitch and they want results quickly, so will Ashton, before his job comes under scrutiny too.

He didn't say he was going to assault him, but if Morsy was allowed to go right up to the crowd what do you think would have happened? They'd have just carried on chatting?

Yes. I'd imagined he'd have just said a few words, like most incidents when two parties are sounding off like this. They rarely come to blows, even two nobodies in a pub let alone a professional in a professional environment.

I wouldn't for one second think Morsy would assault someone in the crowd.

Frankly, I'm astonished you're taking the side of TalkingBlues and Frimmers.

Man alive, say what you want to say, but you don’t need to add things that haven’t been said. At no point did I say anything about being sacked for not achieving promotion in first season, or next, but promotion has been the target since they took over, that’s their return on the large investment made and the only way they could possibly see a return on it, it’s business 101.

Cook was the number 1 for both, if Gamechanger didn’t want him appointed, he wouldn’t have been appointed, simple as that: They spoke with ME about Cook, prior to his hiring, as they had reached agreement on the sale of the club (after about 14 months of negotiation) and ME wasn’t about to jeopardise the whole thing by hiring a manager the new owners didn’t want and encumbering them with the contract.

Brett Johnson described himself as having a “healthy impatience” for promotion, which was proven to be the case by the execution of Cook and he has always maintained that the group seek promotion ASAP, whilst assuring that they have a long term plan for the club as a whole.

We all have "a healthy impatience for promotion". That doesn't remotely set a time limit on anything.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Have you seen anybody respond yet after watching the video? Just wondering, cos it makes clear that Cook was a decision made between ME and Gamechanger (Number 1 on both lists) and we discover that Brett Johnson did in fact say that he wanted immediate success, which included promotion in the "current season" (the one where they'd just taken over) and certainly by the following season, which then becomes a target for Premier League football, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I'd imagine the apologies will be arriving shortly, yes? Or will they not be man enough to do the right thing do you think?

O'Leary literally says (IN APRIL 2021), "If we make it this year, fantastic. If we don't, we will obviously target it next year or the year after."

You've just disproven your original hypothesis.

I think there's lots of different ways of seeing the PC thing.

On one hand. He could yes have been no.1 on both lists.. but was it more of new owners being polite.. they could hardly come in and say we didn't really want you but oh well.

I have. But as I sat it could 100% be exactly what they say

But. I'm also of the opinion that they're doing a public interview and even if PC was not their choice.. they're hardly going to say that..

I'm 50 50 on it tbh. The appointment itself was made by M.E as he was the owner at the time. The other side of is true or its fabricated correctly for what needed to be said at the time.

I don't know what more I can do, honestly this is just nuts, there's a video of Mike O'Leary saying that ME and Gamechanger consulted on Paul Cook prior to his appointment (the appointment was 1 month prior to the confirmation of new owners) and said he was top of both their lists, lol.

Why was ME discussing this with Gamechanger do you think? He knew the takeover was all but complete and didn't want to pi55 off the prospective buyers by appointing a new manager weeks before the takeover. The alternative is that ME didn't give a sh1t what the new owners thought and risked the entire deal on appointing Paul Cook without them knowing, or agreeing, which do you think is the more likely?

Because as Joe said. M.E was after investment over a full takeover. That would explain the discussions.

They’d been in discussions for 14 months and ME retained a 5% stake. ME simply wanted to ensure that whoever took over had the club as their top priority and he was clearly comfortable that they did. He wasn’t wrong, look at the investment they’ve already made on and off the pitch.

*Edit - here's Marcus Evans exact words:

"I have always said that, whilst not actively looking to sell, I would seriously consider an offer made to me by a credible party if it would invest in Ipswich Town in a way that provides secure long-term funding to help take our club forwards."

The football was much better than we've seen previously, for the first 15 matches of this season, since then, it's been pretty awful, the manager and the fans have been living off the hope of recreating that form we had in the first third of the season, but it doesn't look anywhere near returning currently.

I'm not saying it's right/wrong to sack the manager, but given the MO of Ashton and Gamechanger, I think McKenna is in line for serious trouble if we don't get 3 points on Saturday.

‘since then, it's been pretty awful’

We’re the top goalscorers in the league, top chances crested in the league and highest average Xg in the league. And the football is played entirely on the floor with passing and movement.

You can use plenty to make your point (and there definitely are a few things not going right atm? without making nonsense up. The football quite frankly has not been ‘pretty awful’. Not even close.

By the standards we set in the first third of the season, IMO, the next third has been pretty awful and the table seems to reflect that. By previous seasons standards, anything might be considered an improvement tbh.

I seem to remember an interview with (maybe) Ashton, maybe on KoA podcast, where he said that appointing Cook had been a surprise to them all. However, I cannot remember when/where this was said, nor guarantee that it isn't entirely a figment of my imagination, and I'm certainly not going to spend hours going to look for it.

However, what Joe said before is true, Evans brought him in when still trying to get investment. Of course the new owners are going to back him publicly and give him time when they took over, what else could they do?

Ultimately, if Cook *had* been GCs man, I suspect he would not have got the boot when he did. That much should be self-evident.

Their choice of his replacement (a young experienced coach, with no management experience) would also back this up.
