Burns looks awful on 23:47 - Feb 25 by jaykay | not saying burns form deserves a start , but that passage of play started from a mistake from our million pound signing losing the ball then just ambling back without a care in the world. nothing to do with burns |
Noooooooo. You can't criticise anyone else especially someone who cost £1m. That means he's really good all the time haha Yes burns is "ambling back" but there is plenty of players back really.to cope. Edwards isn't the answer. He is mostly.not good and ther eis a reason he had had so few games. Jackson is the only other like for like option .......but he's probably less of a goal threat despite being a striker....

Burns looks awful on 00:03 - Feb 26 by sotd78 | Different folk see different things. Hirst had a good game. Indeed no one played badly. Some unlucky decisions and that Broadhead miss made the last ten nervy. But we are clearly a very good team. |
Never actually said anyone had a bad game. In another thread Someone said was this Hirsts best game? For me he’s started awfully slowly here which is what we really couldn’t afford. We needed people to come in ready. He wasn’t due to hardly playing all season. Personally an odd decision bringing him in but perhaps he will come good, I just hope it’s not too late. Ladapo was finally getting the goals that people had been asking for and he’s dropped. Id be very unhappy if I was him sitting on the bench I must say.

Burns looks awful on 08:54 - Feb 26 by tractorshark | Agree. Edwards was awful at Bristol Rovers when he came on. He’s very inconsistent and Burns is certainly better at defending. But Burns is not the same player right now. Opponents have doubled up and worked him out, he’s lacking confidence and seems reluctant to take on his man. Jackson would be the obvious replacement but he was guilty of a poor touch yesterday and can be infuriating at times. The thing is if I had to put my mortgage on which player I think could influence the game better in that position it would still be Burns. |
I don't disagree with your final paragraph, despite being underwhelming for most of the season you look at Burns' contributions and he's still made some big ones. I guess if he was better at picking a pass or cross he'd be a top end Championship player and we have to remember there's a reason he's with us in League 1.

Burns looks awful on 23:36 - Feb 25 by FrimleyBlue | Love how he tries so hard to help his team here. Absolutely stealing a living at the moment in a town shirt. Woeful. On the ball and off it. |
He's not a defender - that's the issue. Look at Davis - he busts a gut to get on the line. But then also that isn't Wes' role. For all the grief Wes gets, one thing he does very well is defend from the front. He bust his nuts off in the press yesterday. The distance covered stats would be interesting and I reckon he'd be near the top. I don't understand why people say he can defend though - he's ok at standing people up but woeful at challenging. Too often on the wrong side and doesn't get back into the defensive block often enough. But he's not in there for his defensive work. Criticising that side of his game is missing the point a bit (and why he's been pushed further up the pitch this season I expect).

Tbf, I thought it was Humphreys who should have won a tackle in the middle of the park. But lunged in a bit to naively imo.. It's something he needs to learn quickly. Or Morsy will be picking up needless yellows in trying to recover.... Don't think Cam was at the races yesterday... We looked and felt a bit more solid when Luongo came on at half time...

Wonder if he is someone who's natural game has taken a negative hit from the coaching/patterns of play. Is trying to play the patterns of play that we do hampering his natural instincts? Or even just trying to think too much about what he's trying to do. It's probaby not just one thing at play either - a natural dip from the outstanding form he had last season, seeing less of the ball due to having Leif on the other side, opposition doubling up on him.

I think you’re right. It’s probably not one particular thing but there’s no question opposition are quick to close him down now or show him inside. As someone pointed out earlier, there is a reason he’s in League One. Perhaps consistency and confidence are part of that. I like Edwards and he looked a world beater when he played at Cheltenham early on last season. But now we’ve seen why he’s in League One. I was amazed Hull wanted him in January.

Burns looks awful on 15:39 - Feb 25 by WestSussexBlue | Bizarre for a player that was so pivotal last season. Is it a confidence thing or something else? |
Here's my theory: He got picked by Wales. Played against players bigger, stronger, quicker and better than him. Shot his confidence. Not been the same since. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Burns looks awful on 06:49 - Feb 27 with 457 views | PioneerBlue | Here’s my theory. He had a breakout season last season. It’s been tough to follow that up with Wales and possible World Cup on his mind. He’s not been able to influence games every week due to the attention given by opposition but he’s managed a decent goals/assists output. Losing Evo has been a loss for Burns, he was able to pick a pass for Burns when he’d isolated and revived the ball in space. Heading into final quarter of the season we would like to see more of his blitzing game and speedy breaks but that is dependent on CM winning the ball in transition. Less likely with the Morsy Humphries combo. Massimo Luongo could be pivotal to Burns form in coming weeks.

From memory, didn't he play pretty well when he got some minutes for Wales? Think the issue was more him barely having a break after an intense season last season. He looked quite jaded early on in the season and has never really got going from there.
