I can do all those and the “regular” historic counties although there are then also some other former counties that I need to brush up on. I know that Suffolk was divided into East and West (between the Victorian era and the ‘70s, I believe) and that Ely was in some way partly or wholly its own county (?) and I believe Newcastle was as well at one time. Then you have the short-lived Avon and Humberside counties, and I recently learnt that Hexhamshire was a county centuries ago before becoming part of Northumberland. Some of this knowledge might come in handy one day but I doubt it... Compared to the 48 modern ceremonial counties, there are/were nine fewer historic counties (39): https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/1696326/flags-of-the-historic-counties-of-e

Every "Shire" County in England (Quiz) on 12:48 - Mar 21 with 1750 views | bournemouthblue | 20 out of 25 but what threw me was it didn't accept East Riding of Yorkshire which then totally threw me only to see it at the end, not sure what has gone on there but then put me off trying the other Yorkshire counties I assumed maybe the 'Ridings' weren't going to be counted as 'Shires' The second one is trisky too with no Avon, Cleveland, Teeside or Humberside in there, I assume they were all dissolved at some point? That’s a bit odd. I’ve just checked what I set as acceptable answers and “East Riding of Yorkshire”, “East Riding of York”, “East Riding”, “East Yorkshire” and “East Yorks” should all work, so I’m not quite sure what happened there. It could be that you accidentally had a letter already in the answer box when you were typing. I’ve done a few quizzes on there where I’ve been sure I’ve typed something properly and it doesn’t seem to have taken it. I tested a couple of those accepted answers and they seemed to go through so hopefully it should work. As for Avon, Cleveland and Humberside, those were all ceremonial, non-metropolitan counties which didn’t last particularly long in the grand scheme of things - each one was formed in 1974 and abolished in 1996. I believe that Cleveland encompassed pretty much all of Teesside. The whole county situation in Britain is confusing, with ceremonial, metropolitan and historic counties and so on in England and then the differing historic counties and modern-day council areas in Wales and Scotland. I think the names “Avon”, “Cleveland” and “Humberside” may all still be used in their respective areas for the police/fire services.
