Have you been on dragons den with that idea!

Well I presume I made a conscious decision to do it, so in that respect I guess it was deliberate. Although I was about 3 at the time and have no recollection of it. My dad was reluctant to take me swimming after that incident apparently. [Post edited 28 Mar 2023 16:27]

Ashton really doesn’t want that swimming pool/leisure centre built on… on 12:58 - Mar 28 by davblue | yeah from memory in the next few years. Im not local anymore and hadn't been there for probably 30 odd years and took my children there. Was ok but in need of modernization and the wave machine was pretty decent still. I remembered it being massive when i was younger but it's not a big pool! |
The main pool is tiny really isn't it? Like you say felt massive when younger but you only really have that bit where wave machine comes from that is deep enough tow swim in

They've had the funding "in place" for years or so they've been proudly statng on their FB page. They got a nice payout from the Heritage Lottery Fund. For years, they've been stating "work is about to begin...". Long before Covid hit. Pandemic is just the latest excuse. The "Broomhill Trust" seems to be a clueless bunch of local residents. Many other lidos have gained funding, been restored and are now open in the time Broomhill has been closed.

When I had a brief stint working for IBC in 2006, I was told then, that Crown Street multi-storey car park was to be demolished as was structurally unsound and, that Crown Pools was also to be demolished. The car park was demolished and replaced and work had been carried out on the proposed new siting of a new pool complex, to be sited on the old cattle market on Portman Road. This never progressed any further, as it was found, that the water table in that area was too high. Now there will be the obvious ridicule I would imagine about the water table being the issue preventing a new swimming pool being built on that particular site, something, which I also found amusing at the time. It should be recognised though, that if this was being considered back in 2006, then why has no further action been undertaken to develop that particular site since?

I was invited to represent my primary school at the official opening of Crown Pools. Then when it opened to the public, they'd queue out the door and across the forecourt to get in. Each group was allocated a specific colour key, and you had to get out when they announced your key colour and the light flashed. It was a game to see how long past them announcing your colour you could stay in for until the lifeguards spotted you.

Yep, I said to my mrs I swear this was bigger, was really surprised by how small it was. It’s a fun pool though for the kids which is the main thing my boy loved the wave machine and whenever we go to Suffolk he wants to go there!

On the subject of lifeguards, there was one there in 90’s with a norwich tattoo… used to always give him sht then he’d kick us out. And the other one called Gary, some judo expert, he’d always get in your face, aged 14, saying he’ll kill us outside. For diving in the wave pool. Seemed extreme
