I agree, promotion was 99%

BUT...will this team get the credit they deserve without winning the league? Could legitimately claim to be the best league one side of all time but that seems a bit daft if Town don't win the league.

To the inevitable Plymouth fans who will read this, I know it sounds deluded, but the January signings have taken this team to another level and the stats speak for themselves. If you win it, you deserve it, but this current team is next level.

You're right about other fans finding it deluded, I have said similar things in recent weeks about how good the team are and it does come across a little odd when up until a couple of weeks back it still looked like we might have ended up in the playoffs.

I do think it's true though, fans of the other clubs up near the top of the league have been speaking about our insane run of form, which I suppose you have to agree with, but I always think form suggests that at some point a bubble will burst and performance will drop off back to the teams actual level, whereas it genuinely feels like our team since January is just by a mile the best in the league. I think if we had made all our January signings at the start of the season we are winning it by 10+ points, probably getting up over 110 points.

Agreed Homer. I couldn’t care a less if their winner was waved in by Lord Voldemort. We are up! Job done. If we finish top, great, if we don’t great.

Credit to Argyle, their achievement is brilliant for them, especially after last year’s drop off, player loss etc. their manager has done a great job but it’s one heck of a club behind him.

But sorry, I just don’t care. We are going up!!! Get the f in!!!

They’re going to be bloody cannon fodder next season. Luck gets you only so far.

Maybe “ luck” was the wrong word to use. Perhaps rub off the green I’d nearer the truth… eg how many deflected goals? Playing against 10men, injury time goals ( granted you’ve kept going).

Tbh I was fully behind Plymouth for promotion at the start of this season because you’d been there on two previous season and I felt maybe it was your time now. But the sheer arrogance from some ( quite a few) Plymouth fans on here, and other social media sites, led me to loose all respect for you.

Congratulations on your promotion. But I do stand by my thoughts that you will be common gidder next season. Half your team are loanees. Will you keep them or have to rebuild from scratch in the higher division? That’s why I think you’ll struggle.

Do you genuinely think you're better than us though? You're not where you are because of luck but you've done a great job of regularly coming out of tight games with a win when the game could easily have gone against you. We've barely had any tight games.

Obviously it's not luck. You have been brilliant. Even deflections are created by a player taking the positive action to have a shot so really it's not luck at all. You have been excellent.

It's like a horse race where one horse finishes like lightning and they say another furlong and that horse would have won. Everyone knew the length of the race before the horses started running so you can't claim the winning horse was lucky. Same with us. This team is fantastic and another 10 games would almost certainly see us as champions but it's a 46 game season and you look odds on favourites.

The fact we had to bring in two million pound plus signings as well as Hirst who is easily worth several million just to get close to you shows how fantastic you have been. That's not to mention Luongo which has to be the free agent signing of the season.

Massive credit to Argyle. I'm glad we're having this debate with you and not an Owl

I shouldn't really set stall by xG but, going off that, you've had a season where most things have gone your way. And, after the way last season fell away from you, good job too - fully and utterly deserved.

Had to laugh when I read the BBC report saying deflected goal, though! But you make your own luck, especially over a 46 game season. Plymouth are there by merit and, whatever happens, we're both up and deservedly so. Congratulations!

I’m sure we counted up 10 points being cost us purely on bad ref decisions this season!
Also it’s not our fans that are constantly saying we are the best team in this league. It’s opposition managers / fans that are saying this!

Think we've had a handful of lucky decisions in our favour in the most recent run - perhaps to balance it out considering the amount of dodgy ones early on.

Managers say the same about us as well.

They try to ingratiate themselves should they ever need a job.

Even Barton was complimentary about us midweek.

We will keep going with our methods and no doubt finish mid to low table.

That is pretty much the ceiling for Argyle….but I’d like us to break through once in my lifetime.

I doubt anyone expected Luton to sit third in the Championship this season - anything can happen. Especially if the structure is in place, which is most certainly is when it comes to Argyle.

Most things have gone our way? Bolton , Miller and Galloway out virtually all season. Grant and Azaz half the season, Whittaker recalled by Swansea in January when he was in outstanding form, Ennis, Scarr and Randell missing for many games in recent weeks. Losing the best keeper in the division for over a third of the season. It's hardly all gone our way, yet we have overcome all the setbacks.
The deflection today was from one of 22 shots in a game we dominated, it was far from a lucky win, it was a convincing 1-0 daft as that sounds. It was Ladapo who showed us the way at Home Park with his outrageous deflection off Scarr. We just mastered the technique thereafter.
If we win next week and clinch the title we will have won 9 of our final 10 games for 27 points, just 1 point less than Ipswich who have been in incredible form. To have begun the final 10 games only 2 points ahead of you it will be a fantastic achievement to hold off a team in such form which is likely to finish with 9 wins and a draw and is it 14 and a draw in total?
Schumacher and his team have done a fantastic job and probably mastered the 5 subs rule this season better than any team as borne out by the fact that two thirds of our goals came in the second half of games, largely when 3 or 4 midfield and attacking subs were introduced to finish off games.
No doubt we will have 4 or 5 loanees again next season and hopefully they will be of a higher quality than this season's even, now we can offer Championship football. Clubs will be happy to loan us players having seen how we have developed and treated our loanees this season and last season.
We are an extremely well run club under the current regime and while we won't join the basket cases losing 20 milion a season or more in the Championship I think we will be able to compete if we continue to act smarter than some clubs especially as if looks likely the American consortium introduced by our chairman who invested last season decide to invest a bit more now we are up a level.
We rely heavily on data analytics for recruitment as do Brighton and Brentford and while Brighton have turned half a dozen 6 to 8 million signings into 50 to 70 million sales we have to do it on a smaller scale. We signed four 20/21 year olds in January with an eye to next season and giving us strength in depth for the run in and these are the type of players we identify, ones we can hopefully improve and coach in to million pound players.
Cooper no doubt will go for a handsome fee if he shows his worth in the Championship once back from his injury and midfielder Randell is another who could earn us good money.
We have bought land to upgrade to a category 2 academy over the next 12 months and better players should then come through the system as they have already started to.
We aren't in a position to splash out million pound plus fees and high wages on players with little resale value due to age but would probably splash that sort of fee out for a Whittaker who we would hope to improve and sell on for an even larger fee.
It has been said this week by club staff that they feel we are very capable of finishing at or near the top of the bottom third of the Championship next season so about 17th out of 24 which will do me first season up and hopefully we can go from there.
Ipswich I would expect to be certainly in the top 10 and quite possibly top 6.
It's been an incredible League 1 this season and Mr Mariner must be a happy man looking down on us the way it has turned out.

There was a lot of talk on here about earlier in the season of us not getting much luck. I never really believed it then and I don’t now. You make what happens happen.

It’s really simple.46 games and you finish precisely where you belong. Argyle will be top two; probably top one. In a division where three of the opposition finish with near or over 90 points that’s some achievement.

Well done on deserved promotion and enjoy it!

We’ve certainly finished the season extremely well, but if we take off the blue tinted specs Plymouth have also had a very impressive finish to the end of the season, is it 9 wins in the last 11 or 10 in the last 12? What can’t be taken away from you is if you are top after 46 games then you fully deserve the title, any team does. That’s not entirely down to luck which some are suggesting.

It's strange how mostly others report in the press we are the best team and then a handful of green folks come on here to tell us "no" they are. Anyway, we are out of this sh1te league and that is all that matters. You did it the professional way of getting out this league the way teams have to. We did it by building and coaching a championship ready team which was a 2 season plan not a one so incredibly pleased with our achievement.
As for the shiny trophy. Couldn't give a **** about that. The replica will only sit in a glass box to remind us of how sh1te we become under poor [although sympathetic] ownership and series of chuckle brother type manager/assistant combos.

As for data analytics. Every club relies on it, the same platforms too, its how you use it to develop your vision. The models you describe [Brentford and Brighton] are exactly why we are investing in potential rather than loanees as we once heavily did. Unlike Brenftord we have a great academy that unearths some good talent. However, having seen Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham pick of the cream of it year after year you can see why they don't.

Plymouth have been great they season and the league supports the best team argument while our Our GD of double yours abd data analysis suggest an argument that we are. Tbh I don't care im just glad to have escaped league one and wont have Barry down the road reffing our games after finishing his shift at macdonalds.

I’m essence PA have won 2 games more than us, and lost 3 games more than us. They have a team made up from other clubs players, and an extremely arrogant set of fans in my opinion (which is why I no longer have any respect for them). They seem to spend more time on our forum than their own. Why’s that I wonder? Next seasons games against will be interesting.

Thats a bit unfair. One or two venture on here to tell us how well they have done - its a bit odd but they are only passionate fans. I think what they have achieved is probably the most significant achievement in their history, (Apologies to PA fans if i missed something) so they are rightfully proud of it. There are far worse fans out there than them.

If many of us could have chosen a club to go up with it would have been them. Happy for them and wish them well in the championship.

Exactly! Delighted at half time to realise it didn't matter what the Plymouth and Sheff Wed scores were for the first time in months!! Three teams with ridiculous points totals that have had amazing seasons. Plymouth are top for a reason, they are very very good. The game with them at Portman Rd was absolutely brilliant standard for League One. Good luck to Wednesday in the play offs. I'm still buzzing, I'm sure the Plymouth fans are as well, be great to see you again next season in the Championship.
