Absolutely nothing against the fans at all, for all the reason you say. Even the way the club runs itself has a bit of class. But its about what their seemingly unlimited funds are doing to the game and any sort of competition. Not only are clubs having to put together amazing seasons even to keep pace with them, but they are stretching massively to try and keep up and that has impact on everything else too. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Modern football is all about money, surely we are a similar example on a smaller scale, I hope City win the champions league, 100% back an English/British club over anyone else, I wouldn’t complain if someone chucked a few billion at Ipswich and we we’re winning back to back premier leagues FA cups and competing in the champions league 😂

My friend is the same age to me (32), and he is nostalgic when it comes to pre-takeover days, but ultimately loves the position they are in now and couldn’t imagine anything else. His Dad (60 odd) has completely fallen out of love with the game the last couple of years and I genuinely think he would accept having to start again in League Two if they went full on Rangers. I’ve been to a couple of champions league group games with them, and he spent the whole time talking about Robson’s Ipswich. Basically - he wouldn’t swap the last decade for anything, but he’s sick and tired of new generation fans not knowing they’re born, and anything less than the quadruple being a disappointment. He also pines for Maine Road as all the lads were dispersed acrossed the stadium when they moved homes, Funny old game.

Real Madrid are hardly bankrupt. They get funded highly by an even television deal in Spain which really benefits them and Barcelona over the rest.

I see your point, but if it wasn’t them it would be someone else. They might be exceptionally good at the moment, but the dominance is exaggerated I think. Leicester beat them to the title within the last decade, and City have still never managed to do 3 titles in a row unlike Utd and Liverpool* from 70s/80s/90s. Money might be more of a contribution factor these days, but football is still one never ending wheel. Their bubble will burst eventually just like Liverpools’ and United’s did. *and Huddersfield pre WWII.

That is highly likely to change this year. I expect they'll make it 4 in a row (and 6 in 7) next year, and probably 5 in 2025, unless Newcastle edge ahead, which will happen sooner or later.
Go on Madrid on 22:04 - May 9 with 1840 views | Swansea_Blue | Everyone loves an underdog billionaire. Half decent game. I’m not a huge fan of City’s walking football though. Obviously they’re good at what they do and have some ridiculous talent, it’s just a bit s…l…o…w at times.

Im not sure it will, the money is such a huge factor now. Liverpool have had 3 of the most faultless seasons in their entire history in the last 4 years and it was only enough to win one title. Without that, we would be looking at City about to win their 6th straight title. Agree, if it wasnt them, it might be someone else (PSG, Newcastle etc), but it just destroys the competitive element. (and I realise that ITFC have had a degree of that in L1!).

Yeah agree and that prospect isnt entirely attractive either. The best shot at stopping City feels like its going to be a(nother) nation state.

There was a period where people were starting to think the same about Chelsea in the 00s. Man City have sustained themselves more than Chelsea did, but they will peter out eventually. Whether it is 5 years or 15 years is anyone’s guess.
