I remember finding a well thumbed copy of London Fields left in a room in some default backpackers hotel after many months in India back in the very early part of this century ... it was like finding gold.

Bit shocked to read the news. Loved London Fields, Money, Time's Arrow, Dead Babies and others. Time for a reread.

Ah, that’s why it rings a bell. I had that book as a text in my first year at Uni. In that case, good riddance! (Only joking of course, although I didn’t enjoy it as a course text).

So many great excerpts being posted on Twitter, but think this is probably the most poignant in the circumstances.

And, I forgot, there is a Town connection, he spent time with Keith Deller when he was writing London Fields and wrote a piece about him. I asked Keith D about it when he was on Life's a Pitch once and he wasn't overly impressed at the characterisation of Keith Talent, the darts player in the novel, whose wife, like his own, was called Kim!

Spoiler alert: the doctor only turns up when you're cooling. It's the work experience person who sees you die.
