Retained List 07:42 - May 22 with 9096 views | PaphosBlue | So we should hear this week who have been released. Assuming this will be contracts that expire this summer (the vast majority are next summer) I would guess this will include Matt Penney Nick Hayes KVY along with Sone Aluko and Keogh. Personally I hope the latter two stay at the club if only on the coaching side. This leaves a few players who's contracts expire next season that we will want to move on to free up space for new signings

It’s a contractual obligation to advise players of their contract status by the 3rd Saturday in May and league rule also….for those players whose contract expire on 30th June. For Academy players the decision has to be made by end of March. From the 1st of June a player can start conversations with other clubs, if he’s not already gained permission to do so. That is not to say all contract decision must be concluded by that date (20th May), but a player is free to accept / decline and is effectively on the open market on 1st June. Some clubs will issue their retained list stating discussions are ongoing.

Nothing, although hardly encourages players to stay if they've not been offered terms immediately.

Retained List on 10:14 - May 22 by xrayspecs | I agree, he was integral, and arguably made more of a contribution to the team than Broadhead and Hirst. We started to control games once he got up to speed, and it also allowed Morsy to play his natural game. We have four (possibly five with Humphries still a U21) central midfield slots and have Morsy, Ball, Evans, Camara, Humphreys, Harper and El Miz under contract. We were also very keen on Taylor in January, with Luongo already in the building. So there is a lot of competition and I do wonder whether KM wants a pair of 30 somethings as first choice midfielders in the Championship, or whether he wants some younger legs. It also depends a little on how ambitious we are this transfer window and whether we are looking at better players who can partner Morsy. I cannot see Harper making the squad and suspect that El Miz will be sold to raise some transfer funds. Humphreys could go out on loan or fulfil the same role as this season, an U21 squad player. That leave Morsy as a shoe in. I would not be surprised if Evans is allowed to leave due to his injury record. I would like to see Camara given a chance, he was one of the best midfielders in L1 last season and could be a box to box run all day option. Dom Ball is a younger option to Massimo. I presume we will be back in for Taylor. So, as per OP, Luoungo is the one out of contract player who could get a new deal, but time will tell. |
Camara has effectively missed over a year of football now, so could see him out on loan for first half of the season to get up to speed. Humphreys I think would benefit from a full season in L1 - need to look long term at his development, and playing a bit part with us in the Champ might stall that. The season El Miz had is a good example; big step up from L2 to Champ though, so despite his good season at Orient, might struggle to get game time too. Playing as a 4 at Orient, he's going to be competing with Evans, Ball, possibly Luongo, and maybe even another signing for that role. Funnily enough, I hope we'll take another look at Harper in pre-season before discarding him; I think we didn't get the best out of him under Cook where he ended up playing as a 4, when his natural game was always more box-to-box and driving forward with the ball before he joined us - other than Morsy (and Camara) we don't really have other options for that role. Get the feeling he may not be seen as good enough, which would be a shame as he's still relatively young and I think there's a player hiding in there somewhere!

The contract offer lasts for a month EFL Rule 68: 68.4 The Player must notify in writing the Club holding his registration within one month of the date on which notification of the said terms of re engagement were sent, whether or not he accepts their offer of re engagement. If the Player has not replied in writing to the Club’s offer of re engagement by 30 June, the offer shall automatically lapse. In the case of an Under 24 Player, the Club’s compensation rights shall not be affected. Guidance The EFL position is that after the one month period set out in the first sentence of Regulation 68.4, the Club may withdraw the offer at which point the Player will not be able to unilaterally accept that offer, leaving the Club free to pursue alterative options for new players without the risk of the player accepting. If the offer is not withdrawn, it will then lapse automatically on 30 June at which point gain the Player will not be able to unilaterally accept. However, there has been no decided case on this point, and nor has the PFCC considered the impact of a Club adopting that approach on the level of compensation which might be awarded under Regulation 68.5.

I imagine Chico was talking about the squad as a whole, not just those whose deals are up this summer. In which case I agree with him, I can see 10 senior players from the squad being sold/loaned out/released/mutual termination.

Pig, Harper and Ahadme have barely been part of our squad, you can't call them senior players. The three who have left today have barely featured. We'll see what happens with Hirst and TJJ but loanees returning don't really count as senior players leaving, imo. You've been making out all along that we're going to see a lot of genuine first teamers departing.

We've just launched season 2 is why! Many BC fans felt the Championship is where his shortcomings will once more be exposed, so it's still all to play for. A quick glance at Fevs' posting history and they were one of the friendly doomsday prophets.

I’m pretty sure my list is more or less the same as the last time you creamed yourself over this topic. They are senior members of the squad *now*. We have 3 CFs at the moment for instance.

Just interested in how you are approaching your summer window, I take an interest in all Champ clubs…not just yours, although I won’t lie, I’m always intrigued as to the fans view of Mark Ashton. I’m on a few other clubs forums. Just helps keep me up to date with stuff for some podcasts I go on too. Even with the Ashton effect, I’d rather you got promoted than Derby, Wednesday and Bolton, who’ve all taken the p*** re FFP over recent years. Had Derby came back up, it would hardly seem like they’d been punished.

I think they’re gonna keep El Miz. At least until January, if Humph gets a good loan.
