Kinda misses the point of HOW they bought that success. Forever tainted.

Does Inter have this hanging over them? City are accused of 50 breaches of providing inaccurate financial information, eight breaches in relation to manager remuneration from 2009 to 2013, 12 breaches in relation to player remuneration from 2010 to 2015, five breaches linked to UEFA financial regulations, 25 profitability and sustainability breaches and 30 breaches of assisting the Premier League investigation, which dates back to March 2019. If found guilty, City face punishments ranging from fines and points deductions to expulsion from the league, making the stakes incredibly high.

Probably just an informal warning that will end but being overturned by Court of Arbitration for Sport anyway

In 2021 "The top EU court has upheld a decision from the bloc's executive arm ordering football clubs to repay illegal state aid." These clubs included Real Madrid and Barca. So I guess we can agree they no longer are... until they get caught again. |
I think there's a significant difference between being state sponsored and benefitting from a 5% tax break.

There once was a club, certainly never threw money at achieving success, had a squad of around 18, managed by something of an unknown manager at the time, he put that club on the map by knitting an amazing blend of youth and experience sprinkled with a couple of wizardry Dutchmen and did the very same thing.. win in Europe but against all odds. I’ll never appreciate the Citeh model. |
The jealousy is incredible. You realise we were the city of league one this season?

Couple of things:- 1) I was just pleased for my family. Ultimately you cannot control who is in charge of your club. It may well be at some point that Gamechanger sells us to the highest bidder if we get to the Prem / this may well include oil barons and despots. 2) Football has largely been dominated by the richest teams in the world for the last 20+ years. When Man Utd won the Prem year after year it wasn’t some plucky underdog. Arsenal who won much credit this year have quietly amassed a higher net spend than City amongst others. 3) Billionaire Inter themselves were fined millions for breaching FFP by UEFA, and face further fines of up to 26m from breaching spending and salary rules. Not a defence of City, but as others have pointed out it’s slightly odd you cheer on another club who are also an owned by dubious businessmen who are prepared to ignore the rules. The whole of the Premier League years spending will have had more of say in how lower leagues have been affected rather than just one club. |
You need to have a closer look at Madrid and dodgy deals.

The spiralling didn't start with Blackburn and, as much as it pains me to say it, Manchester United's wealth was acquired through a clever business approach coupled with success on the pitch - not an oil baron's takeover. I dislike Newcastle just as much. Fair point about Chelsea. They're probably the ones who really started it, albeit they were at a higher base when it started and not a club rescues from yoyoing like Manchester City and Newcastle. I am aware it's hypocritical considering Town's current ownership. Doesn't make it any easier to support or want the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City or Newcastle to win games, though.

Money buys succesz, whether that comes from being an established big club like United or not. Blackburn started the City type model. The fact is, non established clubs need to spend big just to catch up. City haven't spent more than United or Chelsea in recent seasons, they are just better managed.

United’s dominance was built on a core of homegrown academy players. Nothing like City spending hundreds of millions to hoover up the best talent. City - and Newcastle to come - are sportswashing their way to complete dominance, distorting the game ever further away from any motion of a level playing field. And yet we’re supposed to feel for their gloating fans?

So why the “come on Inter”? You don’t like City because they are owned by billionaires from a despotic state and break financial rules whereas Inter..erm…

After years of underfunding by ME whilst other clubs in L1 went on the spend - I doubt our finanacial outlay last season even went close to making up the gap between us & some other clubs.

Will see what the result of the financial investigation uncovers. Could be they've just been better at covering up additional spending, up to now. Edit - Uncovers, not goes [Post edited 11 Jun 2023 14:20]

Innocent until proven guilty. We did outspend the rest of the league combined though. Remember the rules in L1 are far more lenient. [Post edited 11 Jun 2023 11:55]
