Luongo - what do we make a a single year contract? 17:37 - Jun 13 with 2003 viewsVic

I'm surprised by this. I wonder if the thinking is that he's great for the coming season, but one we will look to upgrade for next. But I'd have thought that he'd want more. A bit strange to me.

I'm surprised he signed for a single year unless there is some sort of appearances clause triggering a second year.

Although, it does suggest it's a special club to be at if he's willing to take a one year deal.

Truly impaired.

I guess previous injuries played a part here. He must have really enjoyed last season too, so the ball was in our court as such.

Makes sense from the clubs POV when you consider injuries etc. It's probably ideal for the club in reality.

I thought he may not sign due to wanting more than 1 year but it may also be his prefered option not to tie himself down.

I think he may be looking to go back to Aus, so we may have done well just to get him on a one year deal.

Article quotes mckenna as saying he will be a useful squad player. Definate signal of an incoming starting midfielder

‘An important member of the squad’ and a squad player are 2 very different things. (Although yes I do think he will be a backup to someone new)

Yeah wouldn't surprise me if 1 year was mutually agreed

No shock at all, given his injury record etc and the fact he might not be first choice all season. Could be a clause in there that triggers another year based on appearances.

Maybe he's going back home after this season? Possibly planned to this summer hence short term deal to begin with but has enjoyed it so much he's willing to give it one more season.

Of course that's a complete guess.

Probably equitable
He said he likes being here and is enjoying his football but wanted to play not sit on the bench.

This allows all parties to see how it goes

I always thought the offer would be a 1 year deal, and given the good few months he has, I also thought he’d wait to see what else was out there in terms of a longer deal.

I expect him to play a similar role to Keogh and Aluko (perhaps McKenna had that in mind). Cup player, with the odd Championship appearance here and there, but a good character around the place to keep things in check.

Which suggests an upgrade midfielder will be top of our summer signing list? I hope so because as Joe suggested previously, an injury or suspension to Sam or Mas and we’d have a considerable drop off in quality. In league one we could muddle along, but it could be a different situation in the champ.
