Worried? 08:35 - Jul 4 with 14147 views | EssexBlueITFC | Anyone worried about the lack of signings? Many championship clubs making moves for players where we seem to be quiet compared to others. Trust in Ashton and McKenna to get it right but we do seem to be slow considering pre season is now underway and Ashton was very keen back end of last season to do early business.

Worried? on 15:55 - Jul 4 by Herbivore | I also thought he was excellent and don't really understand some of the reservations about him. Once he got up to speed he was excellent for us and really showed up in some of those tough away games late in the season. He looked very much a player capable of stepping up a level in those last couple of months with us. |
The way he tossed Mads Anderson (now a Premier League Centre Back) around like a rag doll really sealed the deal for me. [Post edited 4 Jul 2023 16:01]

Absolutely schooled arguably the best defender in the league (behind Woolfie).

Agree. We've seen him in our own team but people still judge him on Blackburn. Bit odd.

Worried? on 15:34 - Jul 4 by Herbivore | He never really got a run of games there to be fair and it's not like he was competing for a starting slot against no marks at Blackburn, he was up against Brereton-Diaz, who is class and will end up in the Prem, and Gallagher who is likewise an accomplished Championship striker with some Prem games under his belt as well. He didn't look amazing his first few games with us, but once he'd got some match sharpness and was used to how we played he looked quality. |
Think I read earlier that Diaz has joined a European team. Yeah must say I didn’t know too much about his time at Blackburn, only that he’d not set the world alight as such. Mitigating factors though now you mention them

We know Hirst fits the system so can hit the ground running. A new frontman might take a while to adjust, may not even excel in the way we play. He improved remarkably in the period we had him, who knows what his ceiling is. Seems a good all rounder too, good on the ball but a bit of higher, can score with his head and his feet. I’m surprised some people readily write him off.

Two bang average trialists released from mid table clubs or random European third divisions.

Agree. Think it's a bit narrow minded to judge Hirst on his goals per game, as some are doing...Only got to look at how many we scored as a team and our team points per game during his stint here, to see that he added a great deal with his all round game.. Proved to be a perfect foil for Chappers to keep banging them in. If we don't land Hirst, then I'd expect a CF of a similar mold. Which might underwhelm 1 or 2 fans, that are only looking at goals per game, as a yardstick for a CF.

At least this year I've some confidence we'll take decent decisions for the first time I'm a while. We're linked with players the games afoot. We'll be OK.
Worried? on 00:00 - Jul 5 with 1588 views | PioneerBlue | I would certainly like all business to be complete in June! It’s not reality, no not concerned, this is what transfers are about, however it might be limiting on how fast we start.

tbf, I quite want to have it both ways here. For the purposes of transfer negotiations, the fee should reflect that he's a risky option who failed in the Championship twice and has a modest goalscoring record in League One. When it comes to thinking about what he'll bring to the club, he's a player with all the attributes to be a perfect number 9, who fits like a dream into our system!

And in some ways we can have it both ways. I can't imagine many other sides will look at his record and be willing to chuck serious money at Leicester to sign him, but having seen how well he fitted in here we will of course be very keen.

Worried? on 11:44 - Jul 5 with 1219 views | Darth_Koont | No. We need a striker or two clearly but that looks like a later transfer window development and one where Premium loanees will probably come into the equation. But otherwise, it’s difficult to get worried about going into this season with pretty much the same team and system. The system is key as we’re not looking for better players per se but better for our system. So for a player like Wes Burns (who probably isn’t all that highly rated on the outside) we’d need a player who does his role better. I also think we’ll be better off with a more gentle tweaking of the squad and a few new faces but not too many. Going for promotion this season doesn’t strike me as a great approach compared to settling and more realistically building towards a proper challenge the season after. But who knows? The team should be competitive still and maybe in January we could really go for it if we’re in the mix.
