Well, I guess that depends what's being asked of the LB. If we're building a system around the LB moving into CM like we have done in pre season then I guess yeah, he is a better option than Leigh.
I think we need to be creative with squad management in order to free up spots for potential further additions. This would certainly help, assuming another CM was to move on. |
I was at Cambridge where Davis played and we was very much playing as his usual self, staying wide and marauding forward. I think it's far from nailed on that he's going to be playing a different role for us this season, he provides basically all our width on the left. |  |

Can play left back and centre mid and is an upgrade on Lee Evans. I’d take it all day.

Colback barely played in key games for Forest, the game passes him by and he offers no upside on what we already have.
Evans - great passer, passionate, loves a dirty tackle and actually gives a hoot.

I don't think we are "well" stocked in MF, tbh.
There's question marks over Ball's and Evan's fitness throughout the season. And Question marks over Humphreys ability to step up, and there's still a possibility that he might be loaned out..
That leaves us 3 definites in Morsy, Taylor and Luongo. And, again, you'd have to question Luongos fitness over an entire season..
I'm not against another solid MF signing. Whether that's Colback, or anyone else KM deems good enough. |

And i'm not sure there are too many question marks over balls fitness is there? Happy to be corrected but I thought I'd read that until last season he'd been pretty lucky with injuries.

Well, Ball was out for nigh on an entire season. Don't think we'll really know his fitness/ injury situation until hes got a few months game time under his belt. Just my op'...
I would question Humphreys ability to step up.. It's only natural. He's never played at Championship level. And although he did well last season as a "fill in" in L1. It was obvious that the physical side caught up with him after a few games. Besides, his best moments came in the final third. Imo. He scored a couple of important goals, showed some decent creative passing and forward underlapping, and has got a knack of picking up intelligent positions in the final third.. I'd argue that he was found wanting at times, physically , defensively. Once we got Luongo in, we were much more solid.
So, if we're talking about an out and out DM, of Championship standard. I think Humphreys still has a bit to do. Ideally, assuming he's not loaned out. I recon KM would use him sparingly, in games that suit him. But, I just wouldn't consider him, atm, as a solid, reliable, Championship DM, if we were to end up down to our bare bones again, like last season..... I would love it of he's kicked on a bit and proves me wrong, though. |  | | |

Personally I’d take him. He’s an upgrade on anyone that we have in midfield. No one else has his PL pedigree. Granted he’s not a long term signing but he’ll benefit us now and that’s equally important in my view |  |

For his Ipswich stories his hit rate is pretty low - overall it's pretty good though - something like 40 accurate stories in the last window. With some clubs he seems to have some fairly good links, with others (like us) he seems to rely almost entirely on what he hears from agents which is probably why his hit rate is lower there.
I think he also tends to go early on stories while a lot of other journalists wait for things to firm up. |

Our new-found capacity to afford such as Hirst is great, but it's not going to be endless until we have achieved more. So I think that dismissing Colback or pitching him against Evans for that matter fails to take account of where we've been and what we have yet to achieve.
Colback has 200 Championship apps and a hundred in the Prem, and is the same age as Aluko who has given us a lot. We have no other players who can yet claim to have been there and done that. | |
