So Sunderland match day 20 - starting 11 and bench of 9 - squad health? 08:56 - Aug 5 with 2428 views | unstableblue | Assume Luongo, Broadhead and Humphreys fit. Below is our current squad available for Sunday, with position competition. 1. Hladky 2. Slicker (Injured: Walton. Fringe: Hayes) 3. Donacien 4. Ball (Suspended Clarke) 5. Wolfenden 6. Edmundson 7. Burgess 8. Baggot 9. Davis 10. Leigh 11. Morsy 12. Luongo 13. Taylor 14. Evans 15. Humphreys 16. Burns 17. Hutchison 18. Jackson 19. Chaplin 20. Aluko 21. Broadhead 22. Harness 23. Edwards 24. Hirst 25. Ladapo So currently 25 available for selection to the match day squad (26 when Clarke returns from suspension). 6 over with so many bench places does sum up a deep and large squad. Suggest if 2 or 3 come in the exits will happen - suggest Baggot and Humphreys, perhaps Edwards, maybe Evans. Striker, Left centre back, and then perhaps attacking or central midfield on the shopping list. Maybe even goalie depending on Hladky performance Sunday. So which of the 25 are missing out at the Stadium of Light?! I’d say if Broadhead and Luongo are given a bench role given lack of training, then starting 11 of: Hladky Donacien Wolf Burgess Davis Morsy Taylor Burns Chaplin Harness Hirst And so to the nine subs: 1. Slicker 2. Ball 3. Edmundson 4. Leigh 5. Luongo 6. Evans 7. Hutchison 8. Broadhead 9. Ladapo With 5 harshly being left out: Baggot, Humphreys, Jackson, Aluko, Edwards… which would be harsh, given their pre-seasons and also the attributes Jackson and Edwards bring?! Maybe Evans to drop out for Jackson? WHO DO YOU THINK MAKES THE MATCHDAY 20? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE MATCHDAY 20 AND GENERAL SQUAD HEALTH? COYFB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Post edited 5 Aug 2023 9:22]

So Sunderland match day 20 - starting 11 and bench of 9 - squad health? on 09:01 - Aug 5 with 2363 views | tractorboy1978 | I think Broadhead will start and I think the bench will be more attacking than that. Jackson and Edwards for Edmundson/Leigh and Luongo/Evans. Imagine McKenna will take a similar stance to the back end of last season.

I think while Clarke has trained all week (also with Humphreys) it looked like from Phil article that Luongo and Broadhead only fully trained on Friday. So Broadhead coming into the first 11 in the balance and will all be about how he wakes up Saturday morning, if he feels the strain. Ahead of the travel. I hope he makes it, but they have to be cautious. Very much agree on attacking options and would probably update my original post. Ball for example gives you a lot of defensive cover across the line and midfield as does Leigh. So expect at least Jackson to come in. Jackson always a wild card to start due to that pace and a good pre-season. I’ll really be watching Burns on Sunday… love the guy, but when he’s not beating the man, we lose a lot of threat

Sunderland fans view of their starting 11 on 09:21 - Aug 5 with 2308 views | unstableblue | Many expecting the starting 11 that drew 1-1 at home to La Liga Mallorca But with others uggesting that was too defensive and they need to get into us. Whether Bellingham starts is a hot topic. They are apparently in for two foreign strikers and as per the Blue Monday pod boys views maybe they lack bite up front?! Mallorca team: Sunderland AFC: Patterson, Hume, Ballard (Triantis 62), O’Nien, Cirkin (Huggins 72), Neil, Ekwah, Roberts (Bennette 72), Jobe (Rigg 62), Clarke (Lihadji 72), Hemir (Ba 62) Another fans view: Patterson Hume Ballard O9 Cirkin Neil Jobe Ekwah Roberts Hemir Clarke I have zero idea if these are good line-ups?!?

Think that is more realistic, we will always have replacements for the front four on the bench.

Of that starting line up I would say the following are top championship players Patterson Cirkin Neil Clarke Roberts And maybe Ballard. 09 is mr versatile for them but he may be forced to play centre back and whilst he’s capable there I’m sure, he isn’t a centre back, he’s only 5’9. That could be a really good target for Mr Hirst to use his size.

Precisely that for me, except Edwards for Evans on the bench. If Broadhead's out, Harness starts and Broadhead or Humphreys on the bench. If Luongo's out, Taylor starts and Luongo or Humphreys on the bench. If both Broadhead and Luongo can play no part, I'm torn between Evans and Aluko for the last bench spot, probably Aluko.

Don't see Broadhead and Luongo starting given their injury records, think we'll be cautious with them. Great boost if we're confident to do so though.
So Sunderland match day 20 - starting 11 and bench of 9 - squad health? on 11:16 - Aug 5 with 1964 views | pointofblue | Hladky - Donacien, Woolfenden, Burgess, Davis - Morsy, Taylor - Hutchinson, Chaplin, Edwards - Hirst Substitutes: Slicker, Leigh, Edmundson, Ball, Luongo, Burns, Broadhead, Jackson, Ladapo This is one game, so McKenna may decide to leave those who have had recent niggles on the bench, especially with one long term injury already in camp. If they're 100%, then obviously switch Burns and Broadhead for Hutchinson and Edwards. The difficulty I had was Harness or Jackson on the bench - went for Jackson as he can cover up front as well as out wide.

Harness has too good a season to leave out. And he’d start ahead of impact Edwards I’d love Edwards to start

Thanks they seem to rate Patterson but he seems to be in competition with Jobe/Bellingham.

I always viewed Harness as more of a right winger under McKenna, and Edwards left for some reason, particularly with Jackson being preferred more and more as cover for Burns. But I think I'm right in saying Hutchinson can play on the left, which could see Harness on the right.

I’m not sure about that. Bellingham isn’t a goalkeeper.

So Sunderland match day 20 - starting 11 and bench of 9 - squad health? on 08:10 - Aug 6 with 1291 views | franz_tyson | Do we need all of Ball, Luongo and Evans on the bench to cover CM? Morsy very unlikely to be subbed, so you've 3 subs to cover potentially 1 position. Jackson has to be a sub I would have thought because he offers his pace. Things might become clearer in the season.... but looking at the list of players I still struggle to see what Aluko will bring. Hes going to struggle to make the bench and a 34 year old will get rustier the more he's not playing. Think Keough. And we're wanting to bring more players in.
