Do you drop chaplin then? Genuine question because I think there is definitely an argument for 3 in the middle allowing us to control games more but would be extremely harsh on Chaplin. I know the most common response to this would be to move him out to the right but I just don't see him being anywhere near as effective and it will cause us to lose so much width, we need to create the space and make the pitch as big as possible.

Why would you replace someone who has already scored 2 in that position and 26 last season? Taylor will probably have to compete with Luongo this season and become a box to box type, like Matt Holland. Which I believe he already is anyway.

Think it's plausible that on occasion broadhead could drop out. He's a great player. But it's a squad game.

I wouldn't other than for very specific games. That was my point, I can't see how we would play a midfield 3 but it's a game of opinions init.

Broadhead has the best stats of our attacking players and he's played a game less than Chaplin: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/ipswich-town/top-scorers Very early days of course, just wouldn't assume he would be the one to drop out (although I concede it's most likely). I don't think McKenna will change the formation though, those two number 10's are clearly our main threat looking at the stats. I could see Taylor in for Massimo at some point soon if only to give players a rest. SB
How was Taylor on 10:30 - Aug 30 with 2560 views | Swansea_Blue | He gives us options doesn't he. He can slot in instead of either Morsy or Luongo when needed, or be used slightly more advanced in a 3 if we need to adapt shape at any point or to cover injuries/suspensions to Broady or Chappers. He's a good signing from what I've seen, but may need to be a bit patient as you'd always start Broady and Chappers ahead of him when they're fit and available rather than start games with a midfield 3. If we were going to do that to try and control the game more, Leeds would have been the type of match to do it.

Why does someone have to be dropped . if KM wants to see him there he could give him the last 20 minutes in that position .

Some of the link up play between Broadhead and Davis on Saturday was lovely. Davis has real quality, he found Broadhead a couple of times with really incisive passes inside, and we know he has the quality to make it stick and create from tight areas. It's a really good partnership and one we need to find on the right hand side again really. It's a bit of a role reversal compared to 18 months ago.

Although the last 20 mins of a game increasingly resemble a bit of a dog's breakfast in terms of resolute structure. Short of involvement in two or three goals a 20 minute appearance might evoke a hearty pat on the back, but less often, a permanent place.

Taylor should be in the team with either Luongo or Morsy. Taylor is more forward thinking than the other 2. So Morsy / Taylor, Luongo / Taylor when Morsy is banned.

You'd probably drop Burns and go with a 4-3-3, Chaplin on the right of the front three and Broadhead on the left.

That's my tentative thinking too. With Broadhead a bit narrower and Chaplin a bit more to the right, width from Davis and Clarke/Williams. Then Morsy and Luongo can split a little wider in defending as well. It's all just nominal positions though at the end of the day.

Control games more? We’ve won 5 out of 6 and had more possession in 65% of those games and more shots in 85%. Why change a winning formula?

I didnt propose the 3 man midfield, I asked how you would accomodate it. Christ! However, just to clarify if you want to go with stats, we have averaged 49% possession in the 4 league games so far this season.
