Axel 20:33 - Sep 1 with 7357 views | pennblue | AXEL TUANZEBE The centre-back Ipswich have been in talks with today is... Axel Tuanzebe. A player that Kieran McKenna worked with at Manchester United. He's a free agent having been released this summer. Has recently been on trial at Luton. Deal doesn't have to be done before 11pm because he's unattached. Would imagine discussions will continue over the international break once tomorrow's game with Cardiff is out the way.

We’ve got one. Baggott | |

Baggott is certainly promising but didn't he look average at best for Gillingham last year? And that was League Two. Think he'd be better off with a loan at maybe League One level to develop him further, a bit like El Mizouni. As we've been unable to bring someone in, I can understand holding on to him. Humphreys surprises me slightly - thought we may have loaned him out to give him consistent game time.

He gets pulled out if position too easily. He needs more experience, he isn't the answer. We need a really experienced head in this league. We are going to get found out before much longer.

Axel on 20:53 - Sep 1 by ITFC1977 | Look at Leif Davis’s stats and appearances, take into account he didn’t play for Manchester United and see that your stat is looking at it from the most negative stance you possibly could. Is it a risk, yes, do we have 10 million to spend on a defender, no, it comes down to do you trust McKenna or yourself? I know my answer. [Post edited 1 Sep 2023 20:56]

To be fair there are injury prone players and then there's Axel Tuanzebe.

Baggott isn’t going to be a starter though is he? Back up in case of injury to two of our CBs Posters suggesting we’re weak at the back haven’t been watching the 20 odd games that we’ve only conceded 6 goals in, save for one game against a £40m attacking line up. Bringing in a starting player at CB would be incredibly unjust on Burgess and Wolfie. Could be that Baggott develops faster training with our first team than going somewhere like Cheltenham and getting no minutes as per last year.

Interesting take. I managed to watch a fair few of his Gills matches as it happens and it certainly wasn't an issue I saw with him. 'Found out.' - what's to find out?

Yeah, the Cheltenham loan was a complete waste of time. Completely logical, but didn't work out. Did he pick up an injury? I'm concerned sitting in the reserves rather than getting first team football may hinder his progress; same with Humphreys. Bringing in a centre back before the deadline would have opened up the opportunity to loan him out.

Yes and I agree but alot of those years of not playing was down to being a Man U player, Stoke and villa fans, minus the injury’s rate him very highly. So if he passes our medical then maybe for once we’ll be lucky. Look at mcgoldrick since he left us, it does happen. Maybe we’re due abit of fortune as we can all agree we haven’t had much for 20 years or so in this context.

No, no injury. Just sat on the bench each game. Thing is, we didn’t bring anyone in, so we are where we are. All will be fine.

Not sure McGoldrick's a comparable situation really, he was played too much at the 'wrong' times here and was better managed once he left, AT has just been plagued by injury problems his whole career. He would very much represent a risk, has quality but only managed double figure in appearances in a season once. Does very much feel like a 'couldn't get other options' signing, if indeed it even happens at all.

Thing is, did Woolfenden or Burgess actually need replacing? If not, then we are looking at "cover", a player who might make a dozen appearances at most if one of the first choices gets badly injured (plus we have Edmundson and Baggott).

I’ll go one further. In spite of what some might think of our defence, we were only ever looking for a fourth choice CB to allow Baggott out on loan. We’ve one of the strongest squads on squad cohesion in the league, which ultimately, got us out of that god-forsaken league. I’m honestly stunned that so many on this forum seemed happy to throw that away to sign players that would have bust FFP, which, I think we are probably flying pretty close to as it is.

Depends what the 'need' is. In the case of someone to cover in event of absence then a sick note isn't the best profile to rely on. If people want to think this is how we wanted our pursuit of a CB to end up then that's up to them but I very firmly believe that Ashton, McKenna et al will disagree.

This is just nonsense though, no-one has ever argued for us spending well over the odds to get anyone in, ridiculous that people are trying to push this viewpoint when it has never existed.

OK, let's compare them. Leif played in the Premier League with Leeds as a youngster, Axel with Man Utd. Leif is only 23, Axel 25. Leif has already played more league games than Axel. As I already mentioned, we have to believe as Kieran knows and rates him.

He'll be training with the first team squad every day and testing himself against the likes of Broadhead, Hirst, Chaplin, and Scarlett. There's a reason he's developed really well spending time with the first team squad over the last couple of months.

Cheltenham preferred to play Caleb Taylor, on loan from West Brom. He's actually a few months younger that E.B. I
