Stadium Improvements 04:18 - Sep 6 with 6193 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | Hopefully the club are planning further stadium improvements, alongside plans to rebuild the Cobbold Stand, redevelop the SAR land and add more exec boxes. The West Stand kiosks/concourse really needs modernising and if feasible, a new roof would sort out all the RV seats in the back 6 rows. I'm sure further improvements will happen in time. It's amazing what GC have delivered in just over 2 years.

Stadium Improvements on 15:41 - Sep 6 by PhilTWTD | Actually wouldn't surprise me if rebuilding the Cobbold Stand is closer than has been mooted given current attendances. |
Wonder how they would make that work? Build around the stand as is, meaning we can still have capacity (or close to attendances), say for the first few months of the season, then re-house everyone for the back end of the season and hope to have it up and running for the new season? (not talking about this season, just any year in general)

Stadium Improvements on 15:58 - Sep 6 by PrideOfTheEast | Now would be the time to do it, surely. Getting all the hospitality side of things fit for purpose (there and elsewhere) before getting into the PL would make sense. |
Indeed, in time to cash in. Problem is the period when the Cobbold Stand would be unavailable given the number of season ticket holders at present.

Stadium Improvements on 15:17 - Sep 6 by Ftnfwest | Realistically the only area of the ground (bar a total re-build) that a re-construction would add significant additional capacity is the Cobbold. A much larger stand there might add 4-5000 but otherwise you'd be renewing facilities rather than enlarging too much. But then longer term a 35-36,000 stadium would be more than ample. I'm envisaging a continuation of the Sir Bob around the ground with an extra deck on the sides. Sir Alf and the corner facilities to be the last to be done. |
You are right that the payback time on stands is very substantial, so it would need to be a significant upgrade to make it worthwhile. Cobbold is clearly the next in line and a new stand holding 12k gets us up to around 34k overall. MA has talked about the acoustics at PR not being helped by having a two tier north stand and the benefits of a single tier stand similar to Spurs, so that could be the plan for Cobbold, assuming we can build back across the Road. The corners are virtually impossible to convert into seating. The North Stand roof is held up by a steel structure that sits either side of the stand so that is not likely. You would also lose the shop and bar facilities in the corner of the stand. At Churchmans end, we have opened up one corner to get access to the pitch and the dressing room and control box are in the other corner. Not impossible but equally not easy either.

When/if cobbled is completed would surely signal away fans being re.located lower tier of Sir Alf as has been previously mooted??

I'm sure my mates Mick and Paddy could sort that new stand out fairly quickly, although they are a tied up over a misunderstanding on a job in China at the moment

Potentially another reason to cap STs around 21k.

Stadium Improvements on 15:05 - Sep 6 by stonojnr | No as was discussed at the time, the shared planning with the council is just to ensure they keep each other informed and don't build something that limits the clubs development options. Case in point only last week the council are ruminating plans for a multi storey car for Portman road, those plans could limit development on that site, which could impact the longterm choices for the club with the Cobbold stand. https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/23755144.plans-submitted-new-multi-storey-car They are not no matter how many times people keep posting about it, about to rip down and rebuild a couple of stands. |
That car park has been in the pipeline for years, and it’s meant to be over in the corner near the Axa building, not in the main body of the car park. https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/21335288.decision-made-new-ipswich-portman-road-mult

I think as per my post above the obvious option is a two tier Cobbold with a larger lower tier… you want the larger bank of fans closer to the pitch not above… that was the mistake of the North Stand I think the Ashton Gate main stand is an ideal model, as below:
