Sounds more like tech problems as the helicopter was happily flying overhead at the start.

Quite happy with what I got, saw the start, had wanted to get to KM0, but had to settle for Felixstowe seafront instead, followed them back to Ipswich, then went back to Felixstowe for the finish.

Wout doing the job, checking his Strava for the stage though and its just wow 27mph average speed for nearly 5hrs, he hit 48.1mph top speed, probably down Brantham hill I'd suspect.

No it was ATC. They have a fixed wing aircraft which relays signals between ground and the chopper. That was kept out of range initially because of military aircraft maneouvres then due to congestion in the Felixstowe area.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

I read somewhere that they use a fixed wing plane to beam all the images from the camera bikes and the choppers. The choppers were up but ATC wouldn't let the plane up in that area.

Those commercial break are nuts. Completely missed Ipswich 'cos of a break. The riders were just coming up to St Augustines when they went into a break, by the time they were out of the break they were leaving Ipswich on and coming up to the Oyster Reach.

That was annoying. Was looking forward to seeing them freewheeling down Bishop's Hill, feet off the pedals, yelling "Wheeeeeeeee!!!"

Plenty of pavement action and a couple of wrong turns in there today! The chap who used the pavement over the hump back bridge on Garrison Lane was a good one, typical cyclist! The Oyster Reach roundabout split the bunch too. Great break by the winner as they swung into Beach Station Road.

Nearly a full on pile up there, as a car just randomly stopped on the route less than a minute before the peleton came round

Lots of waving arms (plod on bikes and spectators) before they got off the racing line 🙄

Would have been a proper pile up as the guys were flying at full pelters.

ah that makes sense then, strange though they wouldnt permit the plane to enter maybe its where it was coming from it had to cross too near an airport ,Lakenheath or something because the skies were clear over Felixstowe even from the usual constant Stansted/Luton traffic.

this is why cycling fans pay for GCN+ :)

the highlights on ITV were quite comical too, with only 20mins left in the last part & theyd only got to Hadleigh, back after the break theyd teleported to Waldringfield, so all that middle section of the stage, completely cut.

Being a ‘flag man’ on traffic islands must have been a bit twitchy at times! The bloke who took a left towards Ipswich at the end of Straight Road in Bucklesham must’ve been peed off! They used some narrow country lanes too, but footage from air made the county look magnificent.

In the 5 minute highlights I watched on youtube last night,I saw a cyclist on the path...so no.

The race started right outside a flat i used to live in the mid 90's on Sea road...if I had known that nearly 30 years later they would start it there I'd have stayed there and sat on the steps balcony thing shorts but pantless for all the World to see....you lucky people.

I just found out a couple of weeks ago that Raleigh recently did a new limited edition run of Choppers. Wish I'd have known, I would have got one.
Of course, they're all selling for silly money on Ebay now.

the best mod was running wires to either side of the rear brake caliper from your rear light with two lead contacts (used lead as it was malleable and easy to shape) that came together when you used the rear brake. If effectively gave you a brake light that came on when you braked. Though no rear light at all when you weren't braking (Not well thought through!)
