Unfortunately it's only visible in this hemisphere from about 4am and it starts getting light around 4.30am so you'll only have a small window to see it. https://theskylive.com/riseset?obj=c2023p1 SB

So from 5 am in Spain....light pollution may scupper it from here. Is it very high above the horizon? N.E. is pretty much directly along the coastline from here so more East than North would be good.

On a self obsessed note, today I'm genuinely scared: 33 degrees forecast and at 2pm, I'll be playing football with a bunch of 40, 50 and 60 somethings on a 11 aside full sized pitch. I think someone's going to get hurt, but us stupid old men won't call it off.

Has one of you got one of those dog paddling pools that instantly pops up into shape when you open it? And is the pitch near enough to the clubhouse to be able to run a hose to it? You could play 10-a-side with a member of each team taking 2 mins out in succession to cool off & rehydrate 😎

Better yet fill it with beer and all lay radially around it lapping at it like dogs fro 90 minutes, then roll over to have your bellies rubbed.

So, whilst Town get a friendly against Premier League West Ham, this is what Delia arranges for your lot ?

I wish! It turned out we playing a team of 20 somethings and also that we only had 12 players in the squad (including old john, who can't run) so I count an 8-0 loss and no heatstroke deaths as a moral victory.

Indian summers are only meant to be 22C at midday at most, not like 32C

Quite. Though I thought I might as well enjoy it anyway, and did so - for once it was a real pleasure to take the pup out for his toileting at that hour - despite being too warm in T & old white long-sleeved away shirt! There wasn't a breath of wind. [Post edited 9 Sep 2023 18:36]

I'd say just getting on the pitch & playing for more than 20 mins in that heat counts as big wins for you all!

We were near Avignon in the S of France a month ago for our holiday, so I’ve still got it on my Beeb weather app. We were hotter than there overnight (but not as hot during the day). #nerdybritstalkingaboutthewesther

My brother in law went out to Honk Kong earlier in the week . He says it’s like a swamp (and so what he went for has been turned to online only - long way to go for a Zoom call 🤣 It’s been a crazy year. All sorts of extremes and records broken. It’s undeniable that rapid global warming is having a significant impact (unless you’re a right wing think tank goon funded by people with vested interests in fossil fuels and consumerism at any cost).

The BBC is making a clear link to it in news articles too but I expect those you describe will see that as political influence.

The fact that there's still some refusal to believe the evidence, and that there's no concerted effort to change, and bugg*r all reduction in CO2 emissions is a sad reflection on the human species, and will probably spell the end of (semi-peaceful) society as we've known it sooner than we might think. The fact that so many temperature records are falling so quickly should spell out clearly to even the thickest of edgy commentors that the situation is critical and looks to be at the worst end of predictions at best. However, we still could make a meaningful difference to the scale of the disaster if only we would try.
