We all have our favourite ever players players, Wark, Beattie, Crawford and so on. What about favourite players that weren't considered legends here (or in the game) but who left a lasting impression on you?
Ian Westlake would probably be mine, a very good player for Ipswich during the Royle era. Steve Palmer is another one who is a bit unsung, a very good player for Ipswich, why did we ever get rid of him?

Immense in the FA Cup Final as well as his header for the first goal in the semi-final.
Proper midfield dynamo and due to the above went to Arsenal the following season. Transfer money funded the 2 dutchmen we bought who’s names escape me.
Because of that move I think he gets forgotten about when there is talk about legends.

Nah, Brian Talbot is a legend. A proper box to box midfielder who could run all day. Scorer of the first goal at Highbury, great performance in the final. 227 appearances, 31 goals.
And my mum used to have coffee with Brian’s mum back in the dim and distant.
Now my first favourite player who isn’t a legend was John O’Rourke. Mop of black hair, scored seemingly every game and made all the difference to promotion in 1968.

The problem you have is that Hegan made 230 appearances, scored 38 goals and was pretty much an ever present 1964 - 1969. That makes him a legend. And he is in the ITFC Hall of Fame. Maybe favourites not in the H of F should be the criteria?

Can't believe it's got this far before another mention of Dalian Atkinson... When he burst onto the scene with us (the bulked up version) you could actually feel the sense of anticipation and excitement in the air that something good was going to happen. He left us too soon... both as a club, and his life too.
I remember him turning and shooting from the edge of the box against Blackburn (I think) and my dad turning to me and saying 'that was worth the 100 mile drive alone). He truly was a special player.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
I'm not sure what categorisation David Johnson, and before him Chris Kiwomya, would have but they were my favourites growing up - in that 2000 team I loved Mark Venus and Jamie Clapham too, both superb players

And anyone who was there could never forget his hat trick against a Middlesbrough team featuring Gary Pallister.

San Morsy, not enjoyed watching a player in our team as much as him for the last 20 years or so, just so so good.
Many great shouts on here, massive Pablo fan but surely he's a Town legend, also Taricco. Neil Thompson was a favourite of mine and also Romeo Zondervan.

Romeo Zondervan, a way better player than ever gets credit for. And only £70k! Was here 8 years, player of the year, captain albeit in the dark Duncan years.
A great player and servant of the club. I've always been convinced that he would have been the perfect player for a SBR Town squad.

Yes, Romeo was a top class player. I believe post football he was also a purveyor of top class pornography!

Ha ha remember that story! I also never realised he was in the 1980 Holland Euro squad with Frans, although he was a Twente player then. No Arnie though.
