Favourite Ipswich player ever.. who isn't considered a club "legend" 12:40 - Sep 21 with 12992 views | ChampionsofInnsbruck | We all have our favourite ever players players, Wark, Beattie, Crawford and so on. What about favourite players that weren't considered legends here (or in the game) but who left a lasting impression on you? Ian Westlake would probably be mine, a very good player for Ipswich during the Royle era. Steve Palmer is another one who is a bit unsung, a very good player for Ipswich, why did we ever get rid of him?

Favourite Ipswich player ever.. who isn't considered a club "legend" on 13:17 - Sep 21 by Churchman | Man of the match in the 1978 Cup Final (I think)? Clive is a legend alright. If not, he should be! |
That’s an interesting shout - I can’t even remember Woods playing, let alone being MOTM. I always thought it went to David Geddis. Had a quick Google and can’t find the answer. In truth is could have been any number of players - Wark (hit woodwork x3?) Mariner who was superb, etc.

Somebody mentions it here: https://prideofanglia.com/tmwmtt/details.php?id=1453 I was going by long distance memory though. I thought it was Clive, who tore Pat Rice to bits, or possibly Paul Mariner who did the same to O’Leary and particularly Willie Young.

From memory I think it was Wark hit a post and the crossbar and Mariner hit the other post. Or Wark hit both posts and Mariner hit the crossbar. Anyway, after the first ten minutes and a couple of runs down the middle from Malcolm MacDonald we were all over them and Woodsie had a field day.

Mariner hit the bar in the first half. Wark hit the left post at the Arsenal end in the second half twice in almost exactly the same spot. Jennings made a wonder save from GB before Osborne knocked in the winner. Arsenal had a decent chance not long before we scored but the shot was tame and straight into Cooper’s arms. As you rightly say they had a good chunk of the first 10 mins, but we grew into it and dominated from then on. Using Geddis on the other wing stretched Arsenal and pinned Sammy Nelson right where he didn’t want to be. But this could only work because Mariner being so mobile, aggressive and skilful he was able to make the CHs lives a misery. As for poor old Rice it must have taken him weeks to unravel his legs after what Woods did to him.

Favourite Ipswich player ever.. who isn't considered a club "legend" on 14:47 - Sep 21 with 1750 views | Swansea_Blue | I would have said Jamma, but he's popped up already. I always like Westie. Ran his socks off for the team and he's turned into a bloody good pundit. Steve Palmer is related to a Uni mate, so he was a bit of a favourite. Gio certainly isn't a Town legend as he wasn't here long enough, but it's hard to overlook him as a favourite. So I'd probably go for him if I had to pick one, but then someone will probably argue he's a legend.
