Williams better than Clarke on 09:57 - Oct 1 by Guthrum | Williams faster than Clarke. Which is why McKenna swapped them in this instance. Clarke was getting regularly outpaced by Hudds players running down his flank. Once again, horses for courses in a specific situation, not a blanket judgement on quality. |
Not sure it was being outpaced so much as poor positioning. I love Clarke, his power, enthusiasm and forward drive are all great. He was top class at Southampton and did well for 60 mins against Blackburn but yesterday he was caught pressing and making unnecessary challenges near half way that left so much space in behind that I predicted he would be hooked at half time. All part of the learning process. Long term I don’t expect we can afford Brandon Williams unless he were to take a 45k drop in salary.

Williams better than Clarke on 15:32 - Oct 1 with 1317 views | Deano69 | Absolutely cant fault Clarkes effort and work rate, but is left in no mans land far too often on the right side. Williams was very good yesterday, and seems to be getting back his match fitness

Williams better than Clarke on 20:00 - Oct 1 with 1261 views | bournemouthblue | Williams looks defensively stronger and more switched on but Clarke probably offers more going forward?

Hmmmm… I’m not so sure about that on 09:59 - Oct 1 by unstableblue | Williams was doing quite a few things wrong ahead of his excellent headed winning goal Clarke sometimes has a better forward pass, is more physical and better in the air [Post edited 1 Oct 2023 10:18]

Williams better than Clarke on 10:11 - Oct 1 by Herbivore | Indeed. Clarke's use of the ball is usually very good as well and he gives us a real threat down that side. Williams looks much more solid and he's very tidy as a footballer but doesn't necessarily bring the dynamism that Clarke does. Important to remember that Clarke has had a disrupted few months with injury as well so perhaps isn't as match sharp as others. Personally I'm very happy we have both and think each will suit different games and game situations. |
Agree with this. I posted this a week or so back, but i definitely don't think Clarke is anywhere near fully fit yet. He will get better as the season goes on for sure.

Williams better than Clarke on 17:53 - Oct 2 with 1098 views | MK1 | Not sure how many games Williams would stay on for. He does love a tackle, which is great, but he will have to curb it a bit otherwise the cards will be being shown pretty much every game. I like him a lot, but Clarke is our player, whereas Williams will be back at United next season. I would rather we developed Clarke.

Similar situation to Luke Garbett when he was here on a big salary now but next season he will take a big cut whenever he plays his football. No reason he can't become our player .

Williams better than Clarke on 12:38 - Oct 1 by Herbivore | We do play with a back three when defending, that's why he's often tucked in and relying on Burns getting back to cover the winger. |
When Williams arrived I believed cover for left back , But I also thought he would play right back think he will play when we play games against teams with good left wingers as Clarke is often out of position leeds , Cardiff and Blackburn all had joy down his side great going forward but a concern when defending. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Williams better than Clarke on 10:33 - Oct 3 with 962 views | itfcsuth | Different qualities - different players. Clarke has that physical advantage - a powerful, quick and strong full back, where as I feel Williams has the technical advantage of little - a little bit better in possession. I thought was really poor v Cardiff, but then had a run of some strong performances, but again struggled v Huddersfield. Think we will see Williams start soon (possibly this evening). Williams better than Clarke on 10:36 - Oct 3 with 954 views | ITFC_Forever | Some valid arguments either way on this thread. Don't remember Clarke costing us a goal on Saturday though..... whereas Williams intercepted the Hudds break from our corner to promptly give it straight back them and set them through for their goal.

Its not just Burns who needs to cover if Clarke is attacking, its Morsy/Luongo, which allows Burns to assist Clarke.
