Car insurance is scandalous currently 07:56 - Oct 6 with 2704 views | redrickstuhaart | Money supermarket gives me quotes of nearly double last year. Swift are putting my premium up £80, nearly 30%. The costs have not gone up that much. Even if repair costs have increased, insurance companies are paying out way less on whiplash claims because of the changes to a fixed tariff for neck injuries which was introduced a while back and which means those claims are worth a fraction of what they used to be.
Car insurance is scandalous currently on 09:37 - Oct 6 with 2582 views | Basuco | The cost of repairs to electric cars is astronomical, especially if any battery damage is suspected or has happened, so they are more often than not written off for relative minor damage. Everyone is therefore picking up the bill regardless or what type of car we own. [Post edited 6 Oct 2023 9:38]

My renewal would have been 50% up, I saved a bit by switching insurer, but still a big increase. Still, I can't complain, I'd like more people to use alternatives to cars where they can, public transport, cycling , walking, riding a horse, whatever. Increasing the cost encourages that, so whilst I felt the pain I'm kind of OK with it.

I read an article the other day saying some electric car owners are being quote £5 grand per year, while others aren't even been quoted - lots of companies just not covering them. Pretty grim.

Same here. I was a bit nervous having read posts on here about doubling quotes etc. so not sure why I've only paid £20 more. Are people not bothering with comparison sites?

I’d have thought Audi’s were much more expensive than that Mine has doubled - which I wasn’t impressed with seeing as I’ve got 15 years NCB

That NCB of 15 years seems worthless, there should be an insurance company that offers very low cost insurance for drivers with over 15 years NCB, if you have an accident then you're out of the club...

About to go down to two cars, mainly because the insurance has all gone a bit silly with two of the adults being under 23. No one has has claimed anything. Seems all a little counter productive as Dearest Admrial Insurance now miss out on what was a £400 policy because they now want £550

Insurers hold a heck of a lot of bonds, which perform horribly when interest rates rise unexpectedly...

I only realised this recently - that electric cars cost so much to repair. So, every motorist pays a load more, but drivers of electric cars really get hammered. Yet another reason not to go electric...

Don't be daft. This should be a relatively short term thing and as with any major change it will take time for things to balance out with more trained BEV technicians etc etc which will bring costs down. Remember that day to day as well EVs are cheaper to maintain. Less moving parts to service and fix. If nobody adapted new/better things because there are some bumps/expenses in the road until we reach a critical mass/maturation then we'd never get anywhere. We can't keep going with fossil fuel vehicles forever.

Car insurance is scandalous currently on 19:28 - Oct 7 with 1783 views | Chrisd | Let’s be fair, most companies across all industries are taking the p*as out of us all. I really can’t see where it will all end? It’s simply profiteering at its worst. At what point do we say, enough is enough? At the moment, it is like we are all expected to bend over and take it up the ar*e and not complain about it!! Look at water companies, polluted our rivers for years and it’s their customers that will pay for their mistakes. Here’s a suggestion, how about you take it out of your huge profits?! I know, I’m being ridiculous to make such a suggestion.

I bet you’re an exception. Most people would rather die than give up their car, as it’s a cult. We’re completely addicted and dependent, and getting more so as public transport gets worse and more expensive.
